St. Vincent Tight End Jack Ellis Ready for Big Senior Year

St. Vincent tight end Jack Ellis (6-foot-5, 235 pounds) has quickly become one of the top pass catchers in the region this season. The San Diego State commit hauled in 24 passes for 328 yards and five touchdowns during his junior year.
“It was a lot to consider, but I went with what felt right — both for me and for what my coaches and family believed was best,” Ellis said. “(Head) coach Sean Lewis seems really invested — not just in football, but in the family side of things too.”
Ellis visited San Diego State three times before committing at the end of June.
Jack Ellis Scouting Report
As a tight end, Ellis excels after the catch, using his speed to get to the edge. He stretches the field vertically, has reliable hands, and blocks effectively in the screen game. On defense, his length disrupts passing lanes and allows him to consistently stand up offensive tackles at defensive end.
“They see me as an every-down tight end who can block and catch — and that’s important to me,” Ellis said.
In addition to his roles on offense and defense, Ellis also handles long-snapping duties for the Mustangs — a program that’s won double-digit games in four straight seasons, including the 6-AA state title in 2023 and the 4-AA championship in 2024.
“Jack is a great athlete who’s developed into a tremendous two-way starter,” said St. Vincent head coach Trent Herzog. “He started all 15 games last season at tight end, defensive end, and long snapper. He’s got a strong work ethic, is a great teammate, and has big-time potential. I think he’ll fit perfectly at San Diego State with how they use their tight ends. They’re thrilled to have him committed, and I believe he has a bright future ahead.”
Ellis, who started his high school career at 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, landed at No. 40 in the postseason 2026 rankings.
