In the 1980's, I was employed at Fort Knox repairing MILES/AGES training hardware in an old wooden barracks. There were two of us in the shop and one of us brought in a portable TV. We could only pick up one channel OTA. We tuned into game shows in the morning and soaps in the afternoon.

I only realized how corrupted I had become when one night at a party I spent most of the evening in the living room discussing soaps with the women while the men were downstairs shooting pool.

Damn near lost my man card that night.

I was working a 2nd shift job at the time, was fairly poor, and so I had only 4 or 5 broadcast channels on my 19 inch black and white TV that was given to me. So once I was up at about noon each day the only thing on were the soap operas. I watched Ryan’s Hope, All My Children, One Life To Live, and General Hospital every weekend afternoon for a couple of years. So, yeah, I was well aware of the Luke and Laura craze.

ABC lineup. That’s the only channel my grandmother got. The Edge of Night was after GH. That was her day.

I was in high school when "Luke and Laura" hit... even us jocks were watching it after school.
My mother and grandmother were both avid (read: fanatical) General Hospital fans. In summer, 1983 Rick Springfield performed outdoors in Hopkinsville. Took my girlfriend to the show. Decent performance, as I recall. My mom found out and became crazy envious. Good old days.

I can't think of Rick Springfield w/o this popping into my head.

It's simultaneously terrifying, surreal, and hilarious. :ROFLMAO:

those guys jumping out of their skin when those blasts go off is LOL

GH was must watch TV for a whole lot of folks because of Geary. I remember being in college and passing through the activities center mid afternoon and every TV was tuned to GH with folks packed around them to watch.
