on a serious note, I missed meeting Buzz Aldrin at the USS Intrepid by a few minutes. I was not happy

Ugh yup that's a bad one. Sorry man.

It was really an awesome day. No idea he was even there. I just went as a tourist. They have the Enterprise on display there. It was the space shuttle that never actually went into space. I was walking around the display and came upon two astronauts that were filming a documentary (Mike Massamino and Ron Garan). I just stood there and listened to them talk. They were just talking about life in space and what not, pretty casual conversation. But I'm a huge space dork so I loved every second of it. There was also a group of kids there on a field trip. At one point someone that worked there asked if they could get a picture so the whole class got a pic with them. One of the workers at the Intrepid asked why I didn't hop in. I said I wasn't with them and I was just some random guy that was enjoying the conversation.

Her and I talked for a few minutes and she just said "Do you want to see something cool?" and I said "Is this gonna make me mad?". She said yes.

Buzz Aldrin was there literally 10 minutes before I showed up. If I had just gone straight to the space display I'd have seen him!!!!!!

I did get to meet 2 astronauts, which is as star struck as I've ever been. But dammit I've never met anyone that walked on the moon. And at this point I probably never will :(

Cool story. I met an astronaut when I got to go to Kennedy Space Center on my Honeymoon. Told my wife I always wanted to visit there so we made a special trip to Cape Canaveral on our way from the beach to Orlando.

Got to do one of the tours. Ended up doing the space shuttle tour since it is what I grew up with. Stood by the big countdown clock, saw a shuttle on the launchpad in the distance, and some various other buildings. Ended up seeing the astronaut at the visitor's center and shook his hand. Don't remember what his name was.

I'm not even going to pretend to play along. Michael Collins didn't even exist. It was a Hollywood story. Flag don't wave on the moon, man.

We were at Cape Canaveral the week of the final space shuttle Atlantis launch. It was already on the launch pad being prepared for the launch. The launch was scheduled for Friday of the next week so we weren't around to see the take off but I wish we were. I wanted to go to KSC and didn't think my wife and daughters who were 11, 7 and 3 at the time would enjoy it but they did as well.

This is from a picture I have (cropped everything but the shuttle). It's like a couple miles away I think from where we were.

I looked up launch dates and supposedly there was one like 4 or 5 days before we were there. Might have been delayed. I would have definitely timed a visit to see the launch if I knew about it.
