The morning’s paper has a brief obituary for Turner. He died December 21. 65 years old.
He was a great basketball talent. He and Darrell Griffith were part of one of Kentucky’s greatest HS teams ever, Male Class of 75. At Louisville they played together for 3 years before Turner left the team at the end of the 78-79 season. Of course Griffith and the Cards then won the 80 championship.
I hope he and his family are at peace.

I was a junior at Atherton in 1974 when Atherton played Male for the 7th Region championship at Freedom Hall. (Yes, I'm old!) Atherton had Rick Wilson (a senior) and Male had Griff and Turner (both juniors). It was a war that Male won in the end. Of course all three guys ended up playing at UofL, and Wilson and Griff in the NBA. What a collection of talent!

Watch it!

Still one of the toughest inside players I've ever seen under 6'4". Maybe only 6'2" without the big Afro haircut!...
I've got vivid memories of an undersized Bobby Turner contorting his body to get off shots against bigger guys inside and finish around the rim. He was a tough son of a gun.
RIP Bobby

I’m older as I was a senior at Fern Creek in 74. I can’t remember which year (think it was 75) but Fern Creek played Male in the 7th Region tournament. Fern Creek later moved to the Sixth Region. Fern Creek had a slight lead going into the fourth quarter but Griffith went off and Male won easily going away. Didn’t care much for Griffith and Turner that night but I sure liked them at UofL.
