Pete is the source of one of my “core memories”. Watching him get 4192 is a memory that I can still feel, not just remember. Having his son there was one of the most tear-jerking things ever because you never expect to see your heroes cry.
He may have been a piece of garbage outside of baseball, maybe not. But he’ll always be remembered by this guy as one of the all time greats.

Also, Kristofferson, Mutumbo, and Rose are a helluva group to be gone within 24 hours.
RIP - never got to see him play before my time.

Met Pete in Vegas 5 yrs ago when I got married out there. Took pictures with my groomsmen and bridesmaids as he was at the mall at the Luxor signing autographs.

All of his records are in the HOF but he isn’t. If the HOF tries to put him in now that he’s gone the family should decline the nomination and tell the HOF to stick it.

He shouldn’t have gambled on baseball. But being denied what he earned by people who never played has never sat well with me. Especially given the ludicrous nature of the Ohtani situation.

Heck of a sport. The Baseball Hall of Fame does NOT include the player with the most hits, the hitter with the most home runs, or the pitcher with the most Cy Young Awards.
If he was banned for life, isnt his ban now literally lifted since his life is over?
The whole ban was a tragedy. He cant work in mlb? Ok thats more than fair. But what value is there in banning him from thr hall?
Isnt the hall supposed to be only the collection of on field accomplishments and talent? It belongs to the fans and the game as much as the individual player. The whole thing was a matter of punishment that completely went beyond the intent of the hall itself. He should be in there complete with a description of what happened.
No, he wouldn't want it that way. He should have been in well before now, as he paid his dues and should have been able to enjoy it, talk to the fans at the ceremony, etc. Getting in now is a slap in the face.

If OJ Simpson can murder people and be in the NFL HOF, baseball writers should be able to put Pete Rose, Barry Bonds, and Roger Clemens in the hall.

Agreed. I don’t get why people are upset with the Hall of Fame when Rose is clearly the one in the wrong here.
MLB has always made it crystal clear to everyone involved that there is one cardinal sin that will get you banned.
- Rose was fully aware of this rule and chose to break it anyway
- He did it willfully and repeatedly (it wasn’t just a single moment of weakness situation)
- When caught, he was obstinate and uncooperative with the investigation
- Rose then chose to go on the permanently ineligible list as part of his settlement with MLB
- Rose made no effort to be forthcoming afterwards nor did he show any contrition, thereby choosing to sabotage any chance he had at reinstatement
If they let him in the Hall, I don’t have an issue with that, but I also have zero issue if they stick to their guns and he remains ineligible.

Pretty much how I feel. I don't think it's any slap in the face or insult to put him in now. It's pretty much the one rule baseball has but if anything, America will forgive someone who acknowledges mistakes and asks for forgiveness. He refused to do it for 25 years and insisted he did nothing wrong while the evidence seemed pretty conclusive he did and finally when all else failed, finally comes clean with a half-hearted apology to get his way?
There's bigger issues in the world to get upset abour but that doesn't work for me, and I say that as someone who thinks of him as one of my first sports heroes and strictly on the field of play, to maybe be the person you try to emulate over anyone else.
I'm all for him getting in now because his accomplishments are too big not to acknowledge and with death, his "lifetime ban" is essentially over.
