RIP - Dean Susan Welch passed away today - she was the retired Dean of the PSU College of Liberal Arts. To say that Susan was an icon would be an understatement. As a scholar, she was one of the foremost and widely cited political scientists of her generation, with more than 170 peer-reviewed articles and eight books to her credit – including her renowned Understanding American Government textbook, which is now in its 14th edition. As a philanthropist, she made transformative investments that will benefit the college, and graduate students in particular, for generations. And as dean of the College of Liberal Arts for 28 years, she built the foundation of what today has become one of the leading public liberal arts institutions in the country. Those of us who knew her as a friend, colleague, and a leader, will miss her dearly.

Though I do not know her, I realize that great professors and administrators are gold to any academic institute.
Sorry for your loss.

Did Dean Welch join PSU as faculty before becoming Dean? If so, what year did she start? (My sister was PolSci at Penn State.)

I believe there is a new Liberal Arts building which is going to be named in her memory.
