In one of the first episodes there is mention of Monica getting that apartment at the rent controlled price her grandmother had it. Kind of a lazy way to explain it away

I was a kind of take it or leave Friends guy. I finally saw the final episode and thought it was pretty well done. I loved them playing Jefferson Airplane's Embryonic Journey as the camera pans over the empty apt to settle on the framed peep hole.

Not me - I'm reading GQ in college and wondering how I'm going to afford to put together a 'Weekend' look (Mulberry tote, Tom Ford blazer, Gucci loafers, Hermes belt, Tag Heuer watch, etc.) for a trip with my model girlfriend to the Hamptons on an entry level marketing department salary with student loans. Also, did not have a model girlfriend. Or any idea what 'the Hamptons' was.

Even this coal cracker kid new what a Hampton was. Hoped to be able to stay there one day instead of a HoJo.
