Also, the statement from Wynonna and Ashley ("We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness.") suggests, at least to me, that their mom may have taken her own life. Tragic.

That's awful. I suspected when they said she died of mental illness. I looked, but couldn't find anyone to come out and say it. Then again, I'm pretty oblivious to country music.

Good Lord - it appears she ended her life with a gunshot. You don't usually see a female use just a violent method, I think only about 15% of firearm suicides are female. The poor gal must have been in tremendous pain.
