The guy that wrote the lyrics (via a poem) had stated that it wasn't about drugs, so I wouldn't be concerned.

The sexual assault with a minor on the other hand...
+1. it was no more about drugs than Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was...although it may have helped. 🤣

I had all their albums when I was younger. Got a bunch of them at the used record store in State College which I think was at either Pugh and Calder or Allen and Calder. One of my very favorite acts. I'm a product of the 70s, and Puff was definitely about smoking pot. You could explain away many aspects of the song, but Jackie's last name was "paper".

Not to be one-sided, they also sang about alcohol and gambling!

Man, looking at that cover I'm trying really hard to figure out when Jesus Quintana (aka John Turturro) was a part of Peter, Paul and Mary. Maybe Paul needed a stand in for the photograph.

The Record Ranch, below the Lazy J?
I sort of remember that but I got there in '82 and I think Lazy J was a around for a little while longer.
I remember National Record Mart and Arboria (SP)
