And the Pope told him the policies he supported were wrong and against the teachings of his faith basically.

Whatever your political leanings are it’s hard to dismiss when the leader of your church says you are in the wrong
Well Pope Francis pretty much redefined what those "church teachings" were in a lot of instances. not every true Catholic was in agreement with the path Pope Francis took the church down.

And?

The history of the Christian church is littered with doctrines discarded for one reason or another. There’s arguments that the Holy See is illegitimate in and of itself as the lineal descendant of St Peter.

Jesus Christ is the head of the body, the Church, as it says in Colossians. IMO, Jesus saw Peter as having faith and leadership qualities needed to build the NT church IMO.

I’m not saying I agree or disagree but there are some that would argue that when the apostles all died the church ceased to be revelatory and instead became interpretive which some would say makes the Holy See’s claim as the direct successor to Peter dubious.

I'm sorry the man died but as far as being a pope, he was really a heretic. He lived behind guarded walls while admonishing countries to have more open borders.

He approved of gay marriage and seemed to enjoy sticking his nose into secular politics. The pope is just a man and will be judged just like the rest of us. Well, almost anyway because of his role he will face a much stricter judgment.

The Catholic church has always confused me. They do many things that go against the Bible and even go so far as to follow the popes opinion on biblical disagreements. I just don't get it.

When I learned that he believed I should turn my country over to fake refugees, but yet no migrants were being housed inside the walls of the Vatican, the opinions of Pope Francis became meaningless to me.

Adios, amigo.

Former Catholic here.

I left the church (and organized religion altogether) nearly 30 years ago, but still can be a social Catholic at extended family events if I must.

I thought this Pope was the best of my lifetime. I thought he showed compassion and grace, and wasn’t too judgmental, which is a rarity for modern religion.

I’m sure another octogenarian will be the next Pope because older than dirt had always been the Catholic way.

As a protestant, I've never understood the biblical need for a Pope. Mainly a spiritual leader/figurehead. Seems more like tradition or preference, somewhat similar to a British Monarch, but not exactly.
