Oh man how old was he? I had the Evel Knievel on the motorcycle action figure when I was a kid.

Robbie was actually much more talented than his dad.

He didn't break every bone in his body because he was actually good.

Both Evil and Robbie were true Americans. Yes Evil made some poor decisions that he regretted later in life. I miss the 70’s.

Evel‘s jumps were must see TV. Robbie actually used more science behind his jumps. Evel winged it (not exactly, but less planning). Brings back a lot of Wide World of Sports memories.

To clear up some confusion Robbie Kinevel son of Bob (Evel) Kinevel successfully jumped the Grand Canyon, several years earlier Evel attempted unsuccessfully to jump the Snake River Canyon. Here is Robbie's successful jump which is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen a human do:

I watched the film

That’s one odd film.

Within 100 feet of the end of the constructed wooden ramp he landed on is an obvious small hump that caused him to spill; and the hump was “straight-line,” with the anticipated landing, as both he and the bike hit a 15 foot hay barrier dead in the middle after rolling 50-75 feet.

It looks like the hump and spill were intentional.

I remember watching this at the time and he had an engineer that worked out the calculations as to the correct angle the ramp should be at. Too high and he takes a terrible spill that could kill him, too low and he's Wiley Cayote against the canyon wall. Robbie decided to over rule the engineers judgement and ordered the ramp like 1 degree higher than the engineer calculated. That's probably what caused the hard landing.
