He never worked at it, said so himself. I read his WaPo obituary just now, and he straight up admits he was the worst father ever. When his daughter won the Oscar, he couldn’t help but act jealous and ruined the experience for her. He was the kind of guy who begged to be punched out but he was a boxer in his youth.

He did make two movies that have lasted, “Paper Moon” and “What’s Up Doc?”
