“Ryan” Sandberg misspellings will always be one of the litmus tests for posers.
Was never a Cubs fan growing up, but Sandberg was always one of my fav players. Hard nosed, all class, 100% professional. MANY players in today's era should take notes on how he respected the game and carried himself on and off the field. Heartbreaking to see him go out like this. Cancer sucks.
There’s a handful times of my youth in the 80’s that can instantly take me to an exact moment and time. Sandberg gave me my most cherished.

I liked him when I as a kid because I thought his name was Ryan. The cubs were officially dead to me when I found out the truth
I was pissed when I found out it was not Adym Sandler. Stopped watching SNL.
I seriously doubt there is a player I have watched more because that was back when cable first started and they were on WGN most afternoons because they didn't have lights yet.
I bet I watched Sandberg in the summer more than I care to admit. Bulls too during basketball season. WGN had the goods.
There were just as MANY players back in the 80s that should have taken note of Ryne Sandberg. If there's are any today that need a role model, there's Mookie Betts and plenty other current players.
As a long time Cardinals fan, it’s strange to mourn the loss of a rival player like Sandberg, but as you get older, the loss of athletes or celebrities of any sort just hits you differently. It makes you realize that time is fleeting and life really is short.

There was something cathartic as a youngster after we first got cable television, coming in to cool off on a hot summer day, and the Cubs being on WGN. Harry Carey with a solid buzz, Steve Stone on color and Sandberg playing 2B.
That Saturday afternoon game of the week on NBC, back in 84 between the Cards and Cubs (The Ryne Sandberg game) is still one of the greatest baseball games I’ve ever watched. Willie McGee hits for the cycle but Sandberg ties the game twice off of HOF closer Bruce Sutter and the Cubs win it in extras. Even though the Cardinals lost, it was special because of all of the greats on the field that day. RIP Ryne Sandberg

Yes in the early days of cable TV I watched a lot of Cubs and Bulls games on WGN growing up in Louisville.
