A group of us ran into him in Miami doing brief crowd segments during bowl week for the '86 Orange Bowl. You know those little clips they run in the build up to the bowl game...

Anyway, they were doing a live feed and we're in a commercial break waiting for the segment to go live.

My friend says "Hey Stan make sure the camera pans the audience... Everyone in the Burg already knows what you look like."

Without hesitating Stan replies "I know and it's amazing they still watch!"

LOL. Great guy and great self deprecating sense of humor. May be RIP.

Aw, used to watch Stan and Guy a bunch when I was home (and much more into hockey). Loved his enthusiasm and that he was as big a fan as anyone of Pittsburgh sports. RIP.

That's too bad but I think he has some really serious health problems the last few years.
I remember watching (maybe TCS games) with Savran and George Paterno doing the TV broadcast.
IMO George's death effected the program and staff more than thought.

This makes me sad. Stan was one of the last of a dying breed. Never made the show about him like so many of today’s shock jocks…and always VERY knowledgeable and VERY prepared for whatever segment he was doing. I, for one, definitely "Loved the Show.”

R.I.P. Mr. Savran.
Well said.

Had a brief enccounter with Stan in a grocery store a few years back.

After our initial pleasantries, I asked if he's been losing weight.

He simply replied "No, just buying my clothes in larger sizes".

In a city that had Myron Cope, Jack Fleming and Bob Prince, Stan Savran provided a sane, rational voice/opinion for Pittsburgh's sports fans.

RIP, Stush

Don't leave out Bill Hillgrove. I used to love to watch WTAE after we would beat pitt just to hear him. LOL.
