Man, that is brutal. Piece of my youth just died. Signing the Tiger paw was an all-time moment in Gamecock sports.

He looked terrible in the last video I saw of him. Now it makes sense if he had cancer. I was in HS when he played. Was a gamecock great in my book. Enjoyed watching him play.
I'm gut-punched. I had not known about his illness but learning of it does not diminish the shock and sorrow. May God, through His Spirit and the balm of time, bring comfort this family.

I'm not one of those people who gets overly emotional about the death of celebrities and such. For me, there's a limited amount of grief you can feel for the passing of someone you never knew personally. That said, I was wildly obsessed with Taneyhill as a teenager. That 1992 season was nothing short of magical, considering the circumstances. After being named the Sports Illustrated freshman of the year (when SI was still worth anything), I just knew he was going to win a Heisman. He was going to lead us to the Promised Land. He didn't, of course, but the journey was remarkable nonetheless. Though undrafted, I was stoked when he was considered the best of all the undrafted QBs that year (and I used to have the newspaper clipping with that headline). I followed him as best I possibly could when he was Frankfurt Galaxy for a short time, believing he would blow up there and end up in the NFL and prove everyone wrong. He was bigger than life for me in the 90s, as I'm sure he was for many, many fans who followed him as much as I did.
He was fun to watch. Him and Mike Hold were two of my favorites. Cancer touches every family these days it seems. Prayers for his family.
First Phil Petty a couple of years ago, and now Taneyhill. Praying for Anthony Wright and Blake Mitchell.
So sad...way too young. At least he had time to get ready. We're going to miss you Steve!

Very much on board with the first couple sentences. But also sometimes it’s a little more than sports. The 94 team always gonna be memorable for me. We had a very unexpected family tragedy the Monday right before the Clemson game. A family member brought me to the Car-Clem game that year. We know the story of that day. It was a much needed afternoon of something to smile about but also feeling like it was ok to be allowed to smile again. So hate to hear that his loved ones now have to deal with this.
RIP. My wife's all time favorite player. Still has his jersey. Never will forget him getting our first win in SEC play.
Rumor is.....he just threw another TD against Miss. St.....if I recall correctly. He went absolutely bananas in one game on the road. Had to listen on the radio. Pretty sure it was Miss. St.
