Willis grew up in rural Louisiana in a very poor community. I read a story about him back in the 1960's. Supposedly his high school basketball court had a dirt floor.

Willis was so courageous. He took the court in the 7th game of the NBA finals with a torn up knee and hit the first 2 baskets for the Knicks vs the Lakers. How many would do that these days.

Hip. But, yeah, the rest happened just like you said.

Someone like Kobe would do the same. But Kobe’s dead.

Oh... his hip. That's right. I confused his injury with the one Bob Lanier suffered in the NCAA regional finals and couldn't play in the final four vs. Jacksonville. Would have loved to see St. Bonaventure play that game with Lanier. I think they could have won.

Saw a number of Wes Unseld/Willis Reed battles in Baltimore (I believe it was the old Baltimore Civic Arena). Those were two gigantic bodies and they fought hard in those games. Reed, Frazier, Bradley, Debusschere (a tall skinny guy by the name of Jackson coming off the bench-wonder what ever happened to him:giggle:) Just a great team and great basketball memories. RIP Willis Reed.

DeBusschere was the league's best defender and had remarkable range on his shot.
