I agree, I think the newer jmi NIL piece is very recent. With all of this terrible publicity you'd think they would be bending over backwards to help uk get some top players.

You are completely ignoring the fact that the new contract signed this year is the first one that involves them in nil. Previously they were not. Sorry if that doesn't fit your agenda. Popes hands are toes guys. We will never know how good he can recruit until this **** with jmi resolved.
I think you meant his hands are tied, unless Pope has a medical condition I'm unaware of, haha.
But yeah, to your point...there is so much JMI misinfo out there and people just spread it about willy nilly. Very annoying
For anyone who needs to know this:
We had a prior deal with JMI going back a decade. That was related to signage and other stadium- and training facility-related things (like the sponsors on the jumbotron).
The current deal completed early this year is where the recruiting BS comes in. They extended their previous multimedia rights deal and expanded their relationship to oversee our NIL in-house.
Prior to that contract extension signed in 2025, JMI had nothing to do with our NIL. So, any recruiting under Cal or even last season under Pope would not be relevant.
It would be one thing if it was only Duke getting better recruits than us, but EVERYBODY is getting better recruits than us. Blue Bloods, Football Schools, schools that haven't sent players to the NBA in decades, schools with old coaches, new coaches... it doesn't matter.

Have you not kept up with anything at all? It’s the new NIL part of the JMI deal that’s killing recruiting. That was put in place this year.
Let’s be real, JQ is first string. That’s just a matter of time. Moreno is fighting with Garrison for that 2/3 string spot and if Garrison gets his act together then Moreno will likely be behind BG.
No you aren’t missing anything. Youre right. The JMI deal that’s letting them control NIL was just signed over the last few months. That’s what’s effecting recruiting.
JMI has been here since 2014 but they were strictly a media distributer up until now.
If...if...if.... To this point, Moreno plays the most big minutes. Of course JQ will be the starter now, thats no indictment of Pope "not playing freshmen", JQ is a top draft prospect. And IF BG gets his act together (big if), IE, starts outplaying MM, then he should start. That has nothing to do with age. The best player should play. That is a refreshing change after watching Reed and Dilly come off the bench every game when we were already down 12-4

but i will say winning with one and dones is so much more exciting than winning with old guys, our early games this year have been snoozefests
I’ve yet to see why we NEED one and done. No one has won a title with a freshman as the best player in over a decade and we still have fans begging for them. The only team this year (with the best freshman class in decades) being led by a OAD frosh that is a true title contender is probably Duke. (I dont believe in BYU.) Why do we need freshman OAD again? Just so I understand why it’s a NEED?

You can look at UConn, Villanova Kansas and UNC as teams that have won recently without elite freshmen, so there’s multiple ways.
Personally I like Houston’s makeup. They’ve got two really good freshmen along with a core group.
That’s a great list but there’s multiple problems there. All but three that you listed are from more than a decade ago. In this portal era, freshman OAD-led teams aren’t winning anything. People like to point at Duke last year but there were three other final four teams. None of those other teams were built like Duke — and whaddya know Duke didn’t win. I don’t get building like the teams that aren’t winningHaving them doesn’t guarantee anything. I’ll list some teams with Elite freshmen off the top of my head:
