I’m not asking this to rub salt in a wound, you guys know from my posts I’m not like that, well occasionally with BR but since my brothers and nephews all were Crusaders it’s been a life long of crap talking! Anyway I didn’t hear much from the Rita regulars on the JCA game and thoughts on the team.
I picked JCA because I knew SR lost their offensive leaders and just didn’t know much about them. I know JCA ran almost at will... did the wing offense throw them off, Kuska was real good at stopping the veer the last few years. Was the defense thin?
I think the Richards game is a must win for SR, if they end up 0-2 into the Blue, it could be a 5-4/4-5 season unless BR doesn’t pan out.
I can’t speak for anyone else but I know I didn’t post any thoughts because I didn’t want to take anything away from JCA’s impressive win.
As a Rita fan, I knew it would be a hard game to win over the summer. Then I found out 2 days before the game that 2 returning starters from the D-line were going to miss the game due to injuries. I don’t like bringing that stuff to the board because it’s 16-18 yos and every team deals with injuries. That’s a position that needed all hands on deck especially against JCAs great line and RBs.
Going forward, I’ll just be watching the Rita O click. All the pieces are there for a great run but a lot of timing was off, too many dropped passes in space. When that O is clicking, it is a thing of beauty. The D is not bad or not as bad as they appeared vs JCA, plenty of capable players on that side but the key is the Offense and they must score or flip the field with each possession. They have to avoid the 3 and outs.
Funny you mentioned if Richards was a must win because that’s what my group of friends were discussing just yesterday. I don’t think it is because SR will be able to be in every game besides LA. The important thing to see vs Richards will be to see the Offense click, to see the O cleaner, quicker and more productive. Obviously a W makes a clearer road to state while an L makes the path more difficult but not impossible with the talent on the team.
No excuses, congrats to JCA on a very impressive victory. I like your style McCaravan, you have a good read on the SouthSide Catholic football landscape.
