24 - 19 was the final. Was able to watch some of the game; it seemed Larry had a methodical approach to their offense, which ran time off and kept the game close.

Congrats to Rita on the victory and the Vikings making it tight. Big sack and fumble recovery for Rita at Larry's five yard line was huge.

Like I said Vikings handed it to them.Makes me mad because despite all the huge steps made by Larry to turn it around, some people still disrespect them & this doesn't help. Not about moral victories.Losing 8-7 no different then losing by 60 well except the running clock lol

As you know, wins are very hard to come by, so I'll take them in any way, shape or form. Not sure when the next time these two teams will meet, but it should be every year.

Who's disrespecting the SL turnaround and the job Coach Blackmon has done? If anything, the conference they play in does not allow too many big time games but they get Rita in a crossover and non cons with IC and Benet which are all good games. I don't know where they go next year in the conference re alignment. But I don't see any disrespect to the program by the teams or fan bases that play them.

And about the respect thing, as a Rita fan I had SL covering the 6. I knew how hard it would be playing a very good team, a traditional rival, on the road, vs kids you grew up playing sports against in between PC and MC. If SR were to win they would have to grind it out and they did. But you go into not one but two threads saying SL handed them the victory. Respect is a funny thing, it's usually a two way street

As far as this respect thing goes I have no idea where that is coming from. In fact I ran into a friend in the bathroom line at half time who is a Lawrence grad. He said this is what high school football is all about. Fans lining the fence all around the field and full stands on a Friday night.

In the game that I saw Rita played a very flat first half. As far as Lawrence giving the game away I have no idea where that is coming from either. Just before half Lawrence punted instead of attempting a field goal. Rita called time out, put in the punt return team, and prepared for a fake punt play. Laurence punted and Rita muffed it. Lawrence recovered and score three plays later. I would have left the defense in and let the punt land without recovering it and then run out the clock. That was the after the fact consensus of the 500 head coaches in the stands (parents and alumni).

At the end of the game Rita went into prevent defense (which never prevents anything) and allowed Lawrence to complete many short passes, eventually score, but eat the clock up. Rita then took a knee a couple of times to run out the clock.

That’s the game I saw.

TL, you think Rita will get into the playoffs and if so, can they do some damage? Before the Laurence game, I took it for granted that SR would beat the teams that they should beat--and that has happened to this point. With Benet crushing the Vikings, I am just a tad skeptical. I gotta believe Rita is on par or should be better than Benet, no?

I'd say in the end, six points was a great spread. You nailed it. Before the game, I was thinking along the same lines as your buddy, DOS, with a 17 - 28 point victory.

Each week is different and week one games are really bad gauges to use for any measurements. Benet didn't have to play them after playing PC and before a looming Caravan with the history of a storied neighborhood matchup. Plus week one SL was probably searching for schemes that would work well for them the post-smart era. I was truly hoping for at least a one-point win. No news on my post season expectations either. This team can finish 3-6 or 8-1. They'll decide.

Frosh won 33-18. 12-7 vikes lead at half. Some non-varsity mistakes (ie snaps going over QBs head) cleaned up at half time and a couple tuddys called back led to the closer score that some may have expected. 26-6 second half score.

Well before the season I thought 5-4 and a couple of wins in the playoffs depending on the draw. Rita is 3-1 but could easily be 4-0 with a one play difference in the Providence game on either the offensive or defensive side of the ball. But you have to keep it in prospective these are 16 and 17 year old kids.

Rita is capable of upsetting a couple of teams that are ranked higher than they are with the exception of Loyola. I think Loyola is the best team in the state when they play everyone. But they could also lose games that on paper they could win. It depends on what team comes to play. Error free football they win games. Most Rita loses over the years have been self inflected. As far as Benet goes I can’t make an opinion because I have not followed them very closely.
