If Duke can’t have him, I’m cool with no other school getting him. I do think he comes to Duke had Tre Jones went pro or stayed in 2020, but whatever. I wanted that kid, but I’m happy with a sophomore Jones + Hampton playing overseas.

With the Duke brand and coming off of the Zion season, Duke was the only college destination he was going to consider strongly. Hope he does well. He’s got some super potential.

On the flip side, I’m interested in seeing if Penny can sustain what he’s doing with Memphis. If Hampton committed there, that was a sign of things to come in the short term for them (until 2022). They’ll obviously still be a nasty team, but Hampton would have put them squarely in the title discussion.

I’m not sure i agree that it’s that bad of a look for Hampton, he was brutally honest. It’s certainly a bad look for the ncaa, but nothing new there.
Apparently he signed the contract a month ago. What is a bad look for Hampton is that he continued to lead teams on. Kansas in particular.

I think it’s a bad choice on his behalf. I know he’d rather get paid but when you look back at the kids that skipped college to go overseas they never lived up to their hype once drafted.

Brandon Jennings and Emanuel Muday come to mind.

Gotcha, was not aware of that. As Jerry says regarding the pimple popper, “sadly, that knowledge could have helped me.”

That was my thought too. It makes me a little more glad that we got cut from his final list after Tre decided to stay for his sophomore season since RJ strung along the other 3 teams that were still on his final list for a month or longer.

True, to be fair, if Tre leaves i have zero doubt RJ is with us. To the obvious counter, maybe you don’t want someone like that on the squad though.

I mean he really played everyone. I understand wanting to keep it a secret but he could’ve told each school separately that he wasn’t going there. Instead he lead them on to believe that he was possibly going there. Even cut Kentucky when the whole time he had already signed. What was the point of that? Just think they’re was better ways for him to go about it. I had been saying even when we recruited him that i didn’t really want him. More because of his dad because he’s a great player. Just think he comes with too much

I can’t remember how long it’s been since he cut us from his list. Was it longer than a month ago?

Kenyon Martin Jr also just left Vanderbilt to play over seas. Well I guess you could say he backed out of his commitment.

I think the only thing I see hard to transition from Overseas to the league is style of play and physicality.

Every year when rookie campaigns start you see at least three to four lottery picks with injuries half way through the 82 game stretch .
A lot of overseas players say the hardest adjustment is the pace and physicality of the NBA.
