One of the best anecdotes about Reiner as a filmmaker was telling Billy Crystal to "forget the script" while filming TPB.
Those infamous words led to 3 days of Crystal ad libbing where Reiner was kicked off his own set for laughing too hard/loud.
30 hours of film used for what resulted in a memorable 5 minute bit part (don't think the studio was too happy at the time, but Rob probably got away with it since Norman Lear's company was producing the film).
Rob was also one of the founders of Castle Rock Entertainment and due to Stand By Me being King's favorite (at that time) adaptation (one change in the film, King wished he had done), Castle Rock got first dibs on King's works which led to The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, etc.
Castle Rock also produced a little known TV series by the name of Seinfeld.
