For a team that averages 35/game, I'm shocked. What about the other schools they played?
those eastern 1A teams struggle with the physical part against Mtn schools
3 teams out of the SMC could likely go and win the majority of 2A conferences on any given year. It’s just a tough, tough conference for football.
Yeah right..Not beating Reidsville...Not beating Shelby...Not beating Hibriten..respect to SMC...but you arent comin close to beating either of those teams..oops you said most conferences...yeah possibly....so could East Surry..Mt Airy...Tarboro..SMC is a tough conference...It was definitely Robbinsville and Murphy....Swain has fell off the last few years honestly and have taken some lopsided losses deep in the playoffs from a few foothills teams....that they never use to lose to.
Not what he said man and not sure why you lumped Hibriten in with the other two. Hibriten was down this year, racked up a lot of wins with a weak schedule and lost to the only two good teams they played. Robbinsville actually ranked a good bit above them on Maxpreps, those two would've been a good game this year.

Congrats Knights, great season when a lot of people picked you third in the conference including myself.
Be humble though..the SMC has respect..cats need to stop saying they are so much better than other size conferences or whatever..just enjoy how good you are and let that be that.
You named 3 teams. There are around 15 conferences with 2A affiliations and yes I said MOST conferences and will stand by that.
Ok this East Surry team would beat any team that has ever came out of the SMC..i will stand by that. What im sayin is..it doesnt mean anything..along with who those 3 smc teams would beat all these 2a teams....it doesnt mean anything..just something .meaningless to brag about..
'86-'87 Murphy teams had 5 future D1 signees, two who were multi year starters at Tennessee (Pickens) and NC State (Johnson). Pickens was a NATIONAL high school player of the year and an NFL All Pro, his head coach at Tennessee, Johnny Majors, said he was the best all around athlete he had ever coached.
Of course you can't compare eras but TALENT wise that's as talented a 1A team that's ever been fielded: tons of skill speed, a huge nasty line and very deep. Take Pickens off and they still win the state title easily in '87. Murphy also did it homegrown, two of East Surry's best players (Stevens and Washington) are transfers.
East Surry is a great team, but they're certainly no greater in their era than that group was. Let's leave it at that and move on.

All great opinions. A few SMC teams and this East Surry team definitely are teams of folk lore for the ages. Nothin here but respect for what the SMC does. It's pretty amazing tbh as far as their consistensy at the top.
the rest of the state will continue to ignore WNC and WNC talent will continue to end up in Tennessee, SC, GA, AL and MS.
How old are you, 15? You do realize that Swain had a Heisman finalist at QB at one time, right?
This ES team is great but they struggled against Mitchell and it took a blown call for them to even be playing in this game. They’re no world beaters. There have been SMC teams just as dominate.
