Have not read every post so hopefully not rehashing, but seemed like a team with some talent and identity.
I Liked the Coach got the crowd in the game.
I liked the Hawks played defense.
I saw some guys who can score in transition.
I saw guys who can score from 3.

This will be a fun team to watch.
Might not win every game -but will be competitive every game.
These are all good points and I agree that there will be some ups and downs, especially in this conference. But like you, I was impressed with what I watched tonight.

Yeah but I was at the game and his foot speed on defense needs a lot of work. I suspect it's why he didn't see more minutes than he did.
I was surprised he didn't start -but maybe that is the reason why??
Also, why didn't the Spaniard start? Cant remember his name -Folg.... played well!

I feel like all you f*ckers who b*tched and moaned about Fran being fired and how it was such a bad move and we would've been better off keeping him shouldn't be allowed to enjoy this team. YES you can play offense AND defense. You know who you are. Go away and let all of us who knew getting Fran out of IC was what this program needed enjoy this exciting new brand of Iowa basketball.
No need to hate. Lets get everyone on the wagon.

Literally the only thing we’re missing is a skilled big man.

We’ve got the floor general in Stirtz.
We’ve got multiple guys who can hit from 3.
We’ve got guys who can get to the rim off the bounce.
We’ve got athletes that can dunk.
We’ve got a team committed to defense and rebounding.
We can get out and run on offense or we can slow it down and work for the shot.

All that’s missing is a 6’10” - 6’11” guy who you can throw it to in the post and rim protect on D.
Agreed on all fronts, can Jirak fast track or develop since he's 6'11 ish?

Can someone help me with a story/thread on the bio of all the men’s basketball players? I know there was one quite a while back, but I can’t find it.

That is a worry. Big Ten teams will just pound on him and the atrocious officials in this conference will just let it happen.
Combs is a very solid backup. I liked the lineup with him running the 1 and stirtz slid to the 2. Would feel pretty comfortable with him at the 1 and howard/hausen at the 2 while stirtz gets a breather too.

Breather yes. Stirtz missing real time would be a killer. Again, he was top 5 in minutes played last year in the entire country I believe.

Ya, i agree, just pointing out that if he needs more rest due to the physicality of the BIG, i think we’re equipped to handle that with our personnel. If he goes down due to an injury, that’s going to be bad news. I think McCollum would adjust and we would still be competitive though.

And still no Thompson news?
After the game Ben said the DNP was a Coaches decision. Essentially said he's young (17), great offensively and will be surprised if he's not all Big player when all is said and done. But, he's young, energy is thru the roof, but defense needs some work and he's got time.

"Trey's good, not worried about him, you just have to see it progress and it takes time".

Can someone tell me what that was they were doing when a shot was missed and they would all jump towards it and attempt to grab it?

Whatever it was, it was really effective and I hope it continues.

It’s called a Rebound, not to be confused with the 2005 Martin Lawrence sports comedy of the same name.

Rebounds are then broken down into subcategories of offensive and defensive rebounds. It’s a very effective, although sometimes misleading, stat.

Mebounds are the wave of the future.

Random thought -> There is another basketball movie called Rebound staring Don Cheadle that is really good. Haven't seen that forever.. may try to find it tonight!

Anywho

I have to say that was so much fun. Most fun I have had watching Iowa basketball in years.

breath of fresh air.

just wish there were not so many late week night games, I didn’t end up buying season tickets because of that. Realistically I wouldn’t make a good number of them.

I am all in on this program with Ben’s leadership.

Agree with everything stated here. I'm excited as hell to watch this team develop.

It was a real upgrade from McCaffery's teams on defense and floor play. I thought Koch was pretty good on defense and played a heady game on offense which was good to see. The whole team displayed intensity, energy, and hard-nosed BBall IMO. They will play most all tough, but not sure they can play way into NCAA tourney, hope so!

Crazy how big Cooper looked last night. Guaranteed under Fran he’d still look like a string bean. Be interesting to know how much weight he put on this offseason

I see it this way. We will be favored in all the non con games except Iowa St. So we should go at minimum 8-2 in the non con possibly 9-1. Pretty easy non con schedule. Hold serve at home 8 out of 10, win at Penn St, Minny and Nebraska at least. That's 20 wins if my math is correct. Think there is a chance to better if we stay healthy, possibly up to 22 wins.
