Four-star defensive end Alex Reigelsperger will be among UK’s visiting recruits for Saturday night’s season opener against Southern Miss at Commonwealth Stadium.

Reigelsperger — a 6-foot-5, 230-pound prospect from Huber Heights, Ohio — told the Herald-Leader that this will be his sixth recruiting visit to UK. He’s also planning to return to Lexington in October for the Wildcats’ home game against Vanderbilt.

From first looking at the opening title I was going to say he is either close to a lock for UK or the biggest con man since Harris, but then looking at his schedule this fall it is hard to say. He has visits to two UK games, but he might just like shorter trips, and he has visits scheduled to four Michigan games and three PSU games, among a full schedule, traveling every weekend. Six visits are very encouraging though, and not all just to catch a free game, and we have very good salesmen with a VERY GOOD product to sell------hopefully one that will look much better after this season.

Then of course he will see OSU against Michigan and as the #5 prospect in Ohio they will probably always be a threat.

Trying to decide how to allot your recruiting time and resources must be a nightmare fot the coaches, do you spend more time chasing a great prospect you have a 10% chance of signing or a very good prospect you have a 50/50 chance of signing------or even a overlooked prospect that fills a needed position, like a couple we lucked into in 15 because of all the decommits opening up positions. What a complicated puzzle recruiting must be.

One thing for sure, we have to keep chasing Reigelsperger as long as he shows any interest.

I think it just means there is a lot of legitimate mutual interest. Doesn't mean he winds up at UK, but that he could and he would feel good about it if he does.

I've read his twitter time to time and he tweets a bunch of pro UK stuff. I'd be pretty surprised if he didn't end up a cat.

Even though he listed Pitt and UK as his top 2 he said Pitt was slightly in the lead. Probably means nothing at this point because it sounds like he likes being recruited so he won't be making his mind up anytime soon.

Kentucky really needs to sign consequential players for our front 7. In multiple interviews, Vince Marrow has expressed high confidence that Kentucky will sign another strong class despite losses of Jones and Hudson. I'm not as confident as Marrow sounds, but I see what he must be thinking. Kentucky is in the top 2 or top 3 with a lot of attractive players, including Reigelsperger. Seeing that, I understand Marrow's early confidence. But he needs to close the deal with some of these guys. Finishing 2nd with 4 star players shows recruiting strength, but it doesn't put help on the field. Right now, Gran seems to be toting the recruiting burden in Florida. But Stoops needs Marrow to score a couple more commitments out of Ohio. If he can.

Wouldn't surprise me if he committed to the Cats very soon.

Been hearing that for months. I recall at least 2 other visits during the spring/summer where some of the so called experts hinted he was on commit watch. Makes me think maybe UK is holding him off for whatever reason.

Alex is 2018 so he won't help this class.

I'm sure he's been here for some stinkers. Gotta be happy with what he's seeing tonight.
