Treated like a hero at ISU for 8 wins...will be run out of town at PSU for 8 wins.
He’ll have the NIL money to compete. He’ll get the players. He’s a hell-of-a-Coach. We shall wait and see.

Some will focus on Campbell and his Results more than others.

People act like ISU was way behind the rest of the big 12. The big 12 is a 2nd rate conference, ISU was positioned well to be successful when realignment happened, and they had moderate success. He is a 4th or 5th option at best for Penn State, and will be not be ready for the immediate criticism when they lose a stupid game. ISU lost to lower conference teams, if that happens at Penn State, or anything close to it, he might not be let back in the coaches office. His AD will be fired the first inkling of problems and he will be exposed and left out to dry. Not a great decision but maybe he thought big 12 was going to dissolve and ISU be left behind eventually. I think it is MUCH harder to win at Penn State than people think. There is almost no talent in the Northeast...I think recently the best player from the Northeast was ranked 150, and ended up going to Tennessee. As lame as Nebraska is, Pennsylvania is just as bad, and they haven't won anything for a very long time...1994 isn't even really considered a title for them. I believe Penn State has hit homeruns on hires for a long time, and we will see how hard it is to win once they get a mediocre coach. O'Brien, Franklin were both really good coaches.

I mean...Franklin did pretty freaking good there. Do you see Dan doing better?

Better would be an appearance in the NC game.
It was stupid for Penn State to fire Franklin. They lose in double OT to Oregon and the everyone is calling for him to be fired. Then the distractions contribute to two upset losses and the guy is gone. Damn near half the time a coach is fired, it isn't likely that the team will find a replacement who is better. This is definitely one of those times. Luckily for Penn State, Campbell is a pretty damn good coach.

Yeah, they did get a guy that will keep them around 8-9 wins but like you said, they ****** up.

Your off on the access to talent.Franklin killed it in the beltway and Campbell in PSU garb will get talent nationwide.

alot of youngsters on here don't know how bad iowagian state was before cambell
They were respectable under Dan McCarney once he got things established. Made several bowl games. His final year there they obviously sucked but honestly I don’t know if Campbell came right after him or if there was another schmuck that ran the program into the dirt again before Campbell showed up

Half the time? Lucky if it’s a third of the time.

Who could forget Gene Chizik or Paul Rhoads?

Campbell is a downgrade. Franklin will have Va Tech in the playoffs before Penn St is in again.
When this happens, I'm going to laugh and laugh.

Iowa State had two other head coaches (Gene Chizik and Paul Rhoads) between Dan McCarney and Matt Campbell. Chizik was only at ISU a year (or two?) then left for Auburn where his team went 14-0 in 2010. Rhoads didn’t fare much better than Chizik did at ISU and he subsequently bounced around as a coordinator at several schools.

You are right. I was being conservative. And my observation is true of pro and high school levels as well. Some coaches are doing a very good job just to get their teams close to .500. Then when they lose their job it's like, OK now they have to find a replacement who will have to be a top 10% tier guy if they want to improve based on what they have.

Campbell is two steps down. Nice guy, well spoken. But his trademark is starting fast and ending badly. So if you go 8-4 at Ped State your not going to be safe for long. It is possible that the "what can this guy do with more resources" thing takes hold. I wish him well but that fan base is hard to please. Just like NU in 1999......

obviously much easier to get a cfp invite coaching against acc opponents than ohio state, indiana, and michigan. clemson suddenly seems a cancelled note. miami is the now the standard. acc, won by uva, should not have been in the cfp this year, as the canes somehow bumped notre dame on the last ballot.

campbell had some solid isu teams but never a b12 champion. he steps up a notch. franklin down one should flourish. at least that's the narrative.

there was. Paul Rhoads, though he wasn't really a schmuck. they definitely blew it by firing McCarney for one bad year shows how dysfunctionalthey are (PS: Hawk fan here, but I know of what I speak.)

Rhoads coached Iowa St. to a 9-7 victory over Nebraska in Lincoln in 2009. Iowa St. was without their starting quarterback and starting running back in that game. He was 1-1 against Nebraska while at Iowa St.

McCarney never got over the hump, was close to winning Big 12 north a couple of times then slid backwards. Even he knew his time had passed they needed to move on to someone else (even if it didn’t work out for the next guy). They found some success with McCarney and expectations rose, which is a positive trait of an organization.

I wonder what pedo st fans think about all the Iowa State players that will be joining the team through the portal? I’m betting they aren’t happy because they feel they can get better players than from Iowa State

Rocco is going to PSU. He is a baller. Matt Campbell will beat our asses the first chance he gets. NU ****** up by not getting MC as coach when there was a chance.

But, what do they say? **** or get off the pot.
