Last I heard he was doing really well and most are really excited to see him contribute saying he's another electric guy like Mo... the story was that they wanted to let him have this year to ensure he's at his best health... did something change?

He wasn't playing this year anyways.

Let the knee rest and stronger . So he can have confidence in it.

Wasted scholarship???

There is absolutely no way anyone could draw that conclusion at this point.

Not even close. Getting it cleaned up means nothing more than taking the time and intentional effort to get him stronger.

Not wasted, it was the right thing to do. The kid committed to us and then got hurt. I don't want Frost to be that guy that yanks a scholly the second a kid gets hurt.

?? Needs a cleanup surgery - will redshirt.

Is there more to this?
Not at this time. Good decision by the staff IMO to shut him down.

My understanding is it's really common to need a cleanup scope after having a ligament repair/replacement.

Kid was never gonna play more than 4 games this year anyhow, I hope Pennsy is trolling.

If you don't recognize the screaming need for depth at RB watching one-legged Maurice have to leave the field after every third carry and them needing to move Wan'dale from slot to RB then you never will. It speaks volumes that a RB doesn't play as a true freshman and we're so thin that NU fan already wants to brand it a waste of a scholarship.

Jaylin Bradley going bust really hurts right now. I thought he was gonna really be a good one. It's going to be nice next year and the year after to have some actual depth at the position.

Sounds like we see more Rahmir tomorrow if I'm reading the tea leaves correctly. Would love if they could salvage the RS for him as well but I underestimated how low they must be on Mazour. They do NOT wanna play Wyatt very many snaps.

He was also a big time talent. Before the injuries he was considered a five star type of talent. If he is never able to get back into the field he can go on medical, but he was worth taking a shot on.

And he ain't gonna be the last kid to come out of that HS with D1 talent either. Scott ain't stupid, he knows the cost of burning a bridge with a high school coach.

Agree, recruiting is more than just recruiting the player.

No trolling. I really want to know. I am ignorant of all of this knee rehab stuff but I have had surgery on the ligaments in both of my ankles due to injuries I suffered playing tennis in my youth. I too had to have some "clean up" surgery in both ankles about a year after the surgery in each. But what I know is this: my ankles were never the same. I never regained the full range of mobility or the same level of strength.

And so I wanted to know... after surgery on both knees and now further surgery to clean something up, can we just assume that he will be the same player he was before? Does he have weak knees to begin with that are structurally prone to injury? And when I ask if this was a wasted scholarship I do not mean we should not have stood by our offer. Poorly phrased. I guess my deeper question is whether or not this is a recruiting bust....

Thanks for everyone's comments. I probably should not have started this thread since Thompkin's long term health is unknowable at this point anyway...

What you endured sucks, no question... I would point to advances in technology as to why he is going to be in a better place than you were as a youth. Not saying you’re old, but I don’t think you’re young either... ;-)

I'm gonna guess there is a difference or two between a kid who is 19 with access to the very best surgeons, PT/rehab people, trainers, dietitians, etc. and you having your surgeries at the age you probably did to address injuries that sound like they may have happened a long time prior.

Whether he's ever the same is likely more between his ears than in his knees. Some dudes are able to go out and trust the knee and play aggressively like before, others can't get themselves back to that place.

But don't confuse this kid with Tre Bryant, this isn't a degenerative condition, this is a couple of unlucky injuries that he's had repaired.

Clinton Portis wasn't a wasted draft pick. Neither was Eddie Jackson for my Bears.

I thought Bradley would be a dark horse to possibly start. Is he even on the team anymore?

Oh, brother...5* talent that could have played ANYWHERE but for the injuries. You roll the dice on these players

Can't believe this is even a thread a couple of months into his true Fr season o_O

Is this a record for quickest write-off? Every individual is different so what we learn from my shabby knees won't necessarily apply to anyone else.
