I think roster is set. Pope may add another wing shooter or PG. (Think Almonor type piece.) I don’t see another guard expecting quality minutes to join this team.

Most quality players don’t want to compete with Lewis, CC, JJ, and Perry. Most basket people think Chandler has a high ceiling and can play both spots. Same for Johnson. Perry is the emergency parachute. (I’ll be the happiest person on this board if I’m wrong and someone of Jackson’s ability joins up.) I just don’t see any high quality player joining that logjam.

New stretch 4 was biggest need. I want to keep BG, and I want JQ to be healthy by early Dec.

I’m guessing Pope adds another PG we’ve never heard of who’s just happy to be at UK. However, I’m happy with the roster and ready for Nov to get here!

People thought we were done after we landed Mo D.
Then they thought we were done after JQ.
Now they think it is done after Jelavic committed today.

The fact is, the roster will be done when Pope says it's done, and he hasn't said that yet.

How many main rotation players do we have who are 40% or over from three last season?

Not many - mo, kam, we could hope Chandler will be there, and then you'd be hanging your hat on one of the Kentucky boys making a leap.

If you don't have a couple on the floor together, they can always do what they did to Brea after our roster got beat up.

We still need three more players including a human statue who can shoot threes and do nothing else. I read it on Rupp Rafters.

If we can get Wilkerson to campus tomorrow, that would be big if twitter reports are correct about iu now leading. But maybe he would commit Monday to us and then the roster will be set.

I don’t know a single poster that thought the roster was finished when those players committed. Half the roster was still empty!

Pope will add another player, and it will probably be a PG/SG. I’m just guessing it will be an Almonor type player coming off bench in limited minutes. As I stated in OP, I’ll be the happiest person on this board if I’m wrong.

My main point is that few transfer players want to compete with what we have returning/committed.

The current lineup has a lot of things last year’s lineup didn’t have … on both sides of the ball. I’ll always wish we had a sniper like Brea! I think next year will be a better shooting team even if we don’t have another Brea.

I agree, but I think the reason he quit is the same reason a high quality replacement is not coming.

The existing guards are not chopped liver, and transfers know it. Think about it in reverse. I think this board would go crazy if CC transferred from BYU to Uk, or if Jasper decommitted from Ala to come to UK. Everyone would be screaming how they are the perfect fit to round out the roster. The fact is, they’re already on the team. The PG transfer scared off Lewis. I’m just GUESSING the whole package is scaring off top guards.

We both know money can change a lot of things. Pope may throw a bag at Wilkerson. I know one thing … summer practices will be competitive!

I agree with you. Jasper will be a key to the UK title run next season

I agree that Jasper will be a key piece. The good thing is he doesn’t have to carry team like past freshmen. He can improve at a normal pace with other very good older players around him. A very good Feb-Mar run will get him drafted in the 1st round.

Previous UK PGs had to beat man off dribble and get to rim. Pope’s PGs (and NBA) have to shoot and pass well in pick&roll. I’m curious to see how Jasper does by end of the year. Chandler was doing this well by end of last year.

You have more connections than me and I read your posts because of your good takes.

I’ll say this … if Pope can sell more high quality guards and wings to sign up with our existing depth then he’s a great salesman (with a nice checkbook!) We have some good depth as it currently sits!

I hope I’m wrong and you’re right, unless it means someone is leaving. I do not want to lose Oweh! He has a few flaws, but he’s a proven winner and able to get to rim/ft line while often defending other team’s best wing.

I have no connections. I just pay attention and don't panic like all the chicken littles around her.

Just look what we ended up with on this last team and we didn't even sign our FIRST player until April 21 last year. That's still 9 days from now.

I’ll throw some snark back at you … some reading comprehension would help you realize my point is that few quality players will choose to join the competition for minutes.

Read twice “young grasshopper” before throwing stones.
