After watching this game and the two prior games, it is obvious Nebraska is severely lacking in the type of athletes that can play at a Top-20 level, let alone compete for anything better. The entire roster needs an overhaul. I actually think the OL may be the best position group going into next year, along with punter. If Rhule wants to keep his job it will take 20 million minimum and a new S&C coach to get this team at the needed level.

We have an enormous number of Freshman, Red Shirt Freshman and Sophomores on the roster. Development exposure is coming, with a Positive or Negative result. There’s talent there.
Coach Rhule must score big in the Portal. 2-QB’s. 2-RB, 2-3 OT, 2-3 interior DL, plus. He has to get difference makers at those positions for next year.
1 QB needs to be a proven Starter.

thats why I'm thinking unlv qb...maybe rhule thought a sophomore rvp, and freshmen nwari could handle the schedule..but I'm thinking more juniors and seniors on the dline..and at least 4 up there not 3..
I know their thought process is a legion of db's to cover the osu recivers..but lets focus on a legion of dl's to stop big 10 running games first
I don't think we need to spend a ton to put together a solid roster. And we don't really have the momentum needed to get a good ROI in that case. I'd rather go after quantity over quality in this transfer portal class. Find a bunch of solid bodies to keep churning the roster, but I don't think we should try to overspend for exceptional talent. We're eventually going to have to outperform our talent level to gather momentum going into an offseason, not underperform like we've done for a decade.
4-6 portal guys could make a huge difference.
I'll say this until it comes to fruition, DL/OL must be the focus of NIL spending. Nebraska is in need of a RB also but the lines must be shored up or this is just a case of wash and repeat in 2026. Nebraska is not going to be in the hunt for a National Championship anytime soon so people can just get that thought out of their minds. I think what most of us want is a team that can compete every week it plays. It drives me absolutely mad when I see majority of money spent on just one player it's not necessary.
I disagree actually. DL/OL need better coaching. We don't have to spend a ton to get significantly better. Lenhardt was a freshman all American, but at this point, he looks like Eric Cartman in the special olympics. That shouldn't happen where guys are developing backwards throughout their career. I feel like even Nwaneri got worse throughout the year.
Respect your opinion, but after seeing what it takes to win now not in 3-4 years you need those studs out of the portal mixed in with players you recruited of course. Depth is important and coaching up young players is great but college football has evolved to the point where you need veteran help to shore up weak spots on a team. Yes, coaching is important and we'll see how well the new coaches do but you absolutely need to pay for great players to make a great team.

I’m not arguing about ratings. Talent is vital and we don’t have enough.
But we won’t be getting 85 guys out of the portal every year so we had better be bringing in some young players and developing them.
Next year will be Coach Rhule’s 4th year, and I’m looking forward to seeing those 2nd, 3rd and 4th year guys develop and get on the field.
I’m also interested to see who, and how many will move on and won’t be in the team next year.
If we are getting blown out routinely and need both coaching and roster overhauls in year 4, then Rhule has failed and there's no reason to believe it will get better.

When you don’t have room for a big class you recruit your *** off for quality and not reaches. The 2026 class is 80% reaches. The staff was lazy AF in recruiting last year regardless if it was a small class or not
He needs to quit offering the Brice Turners of the world. Stop giving scholarships out to walkons cause they work really hard. He talked Bower’s up like the kid was all B1G. This crap needs to stop. That’s 2 more scholarships they need this year in recruiting given to kids who will work really hard to make special teams. And I know that sound insensitive but I’m not a 8th place trophy guy. I also know out walk-ons get school paid for a lot of the time. They might not get the other perks but life isn’t a hand me out. Matt isn’t built for big time football. He’s a MAC coach at best

No need to have 16 WRs on the roster hell only 2 or 3 even produce anything so hopefully they aren’t paying very many of them .
Exactly. We have got to get a roster where a significant percentage can play in the NFL. If we continue to field a team of average athletes and future accountants we will be a second tier team.
Next thing to come into NCAA is being able to cut players during the season.
And Nebraska could easily have signed Curt Cignetti to be Nebraska's HC but our donors would never allow a coach from James Madison to be the head man, they needed that shinny thing, that big name because they know best. Nebraska will never get back to relevance until it admits we had a great past at Nebraska but that was in the past. Cignetti would have demanded certain conditions to be Nebraska's HC and I'm quite sure Nebraska would have balked at that knowing our admin and donors would never give up control. What could have been we will never know but will lessons on hiring is another thing.
Is it the players, the coaches, recruiting evaluations, the scheme? I just looked at the Staff Directory (I encourage everyone to do the same) I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the number of people/coaches listed, I had no idea. I counted over 70 names from the Head Coach all the way down to the equipment mgr. Phil Snow the Assist HC, Logan Holgorsen is the Asst. Chief of Staff, a number of Senior Assoc. Directors of this/that, it's nuts. Ron Brown, God love him, is now working with fullbacks/returners. It's like we're inventing positions to keep paying old friends to have a job. If we were a 10-11-12 win team I wouldn't care as much but this Football program is looking more like a Minnesota Day-Care operation (i.e. a lot of money being wasted). FIX THE PROBLEM.
