I don't know, but we are loaded. I have to wonder if Jelavic is going to be a bit of a project. He will see time but I don't know enough about him to say how effective he will be. JQ will come along slowly so that might help him out.

Not sure about Pope's policy on freshmen either. I am sure they will play, just not sure how much.

Unless Noah and Perry make major gains in the off season they will be lucky to see the floor.

The way Pope rotates there should be minutes for most everyone. The only problem I see with this is if someone get jealous and starts to disrupt team chemistry.

I have to wonder if Jelavic is going to be a bit of a project.

I know, I know, it’s just a hype video, but man it sure looks like AJ can make contributions now. Good handles, the length to dunk with power and disrupt shots, limited bulk but notable post awareness and footwork. A more advanced version of Big Z in his first season? I bet he can produce on a well-spaced floor. Take this with a grain of salt; I’m no talent scout. Hopefully he gives valuable minutes in the coming year and sticks around for continuity in the next.

Williams seems way more like a 3 and maybe even occasional 4 than he does a 2. I can't see him starting at the 2G spot. So if we don't land Wilkerson, I think creeksman is spot on. If we lank Wilk, I think he starts at the 2 and we're loaded from top to bottom.

But has 7.1.5” wingspan
And 9’3” standing reach.

Decent wingspan but a really good standing reach for college.

I don't disagree. I think he is ready from an offensive standpoint. European courts are smaller so the open court thing you mentioned should work out very well for him. Hope the dude can pass. If so he could fill in nicely for Amari to walk the ball up and set the offense.

They can also slap and hand check to their hearts content, legally. Thanks to that it can be argued that Euro ball has more contact than American, but the sheer athletic ability and strength of the American player is much greater. Even after two years Z is still weak as a kitten compared to someone like Amari. His brother is much better but even he still has trouble holding his own space. That leads to problems positioning for rebounds. Saw a lot of that in the Olympics.

I am pumped that he came here and I hope the dude is a stud out of the stable. If not I hope he hangs out long enough to see his full potential because I think he will be really good.

This is truly a roster that will be able to play many rotations. There will be a typical starting line up and the first 4 to 5 off the bench. As Pope and coaches get to know this group and as the scout coach knows the competition, I think you could see for specific games the 2nd half be a line up that is playing best that day, matching up best that day.

It will be interesting to see how this season pans out.

Also, Pope might start Garrison at PF, since he is a returning player. Reward that loyalty. But Garrison still plays most of his minutes at the 5.

Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if Moreno plays over Jelavic, but I think Jelavic, being older and playing better competition, will get the nod.

I love Derek Stevenson’s videos but he isn’t an insider or a scout. I can’t find any full games anywhere that I can find of Andrija Jelavic. I’m very excited by his highlights, but until we see longer film we really don’t know how effective he will be right away. People penciling him in as a starting PF could be jumping the gun just a tad. Just my thoughts.



Btw if anyone finds full games somewhere, please at me and let me know.

I’m back and forth on who starts opposite of Oweh between Chandler and Williams. I think they would split time pretty evenly, regardless. Williams gives us a little more length in the starting five.

I have no numbers to back up my claim, but I *feel* like we (and it could the same for all of basketball) go through this every year where the players only seem to bulk up after they've been here. Speaking of the kids, it could just be a nutrition thing, could be they're just kids and aren't going to do anything off the court unless they have staff in their ears telling them to do so.

He’s 21, I believe, & has played 53 games in the very competitive Adriatic League over the last two seasons. And, he’s been productive. He’s also been on draft boards since last year. He’s projected as a 2nd round pick, right now. And, he’s coming a long way to showcase himself & try to improve his stock. So, I don’t think he’d commit to anyone without a guarantee to at least be in the rotation.

He’s not crossing the Atlantic to sit on the bench. Definitely not as 3rd string or worse. Based on the little bit of film I’ve seen, he’s super skilled & looks like he was born to play in Pope’s offense. He can even provide some secondary rim protection/deterrence. Personally, I’ll be shocked if he’s any less than the backup 4, getting 20+ mpg.

I have him with about 15 minutes a game off the bench. If he’s good enough to put two Juniors who have been through the SEC ringer this past season and a projected first round draft pick on the bench, then that’s awesome.

I’m just being cautious with my expectations for him.

But we have lots of question marks right now in the frontcourt. It looks good on paper, but how will that translate to the court?

Will JQ be recovered in time to make an impact? Will he still have the athleticism after his recovery?

Will Jelavic be ready for American ball? We saw with Ivisic, that there is a lot of differences in playing Euro ball and here in the States. Especially defensively.

Will Moreno be ready to contribute as a Freshman?

Will BG step it up in year two in the system?

Will Dioubate step up on a new team, potentially in an expanded role?

We are loaded up front, on paper. Let’s see how it translates to the court.

This is a concern.

We could be looking at this rotation to start the season:

PF Dioubate/Williams/Noah
C Garrison/Moreno

Could be looking at a lot of small ball in November/December.

Heaven forbid, if JQ has a setback and the NCAA decides not to let Jelavic play for some stupid reason, that could be our rotation all season.

I like the potential of this lineup, but still a lot of question marks.

Back in the 60’s our coach would not let us lift weights “ because it would hurt our flexibility “ . Thank God we gave progressed from that .

I like what you've done here, especially having Kam starting at the SF position. I think Kam will be special.

Watching more of Jasper, I've got my concerns. He is very thin, especially for a collegiate PG that some swear to. Sure, he does have some Boogie Fland in him, as this comparison is the best I could think of. I can see some freshman growing pains with JJ, that could possibly have him being a two-year player rather than a one-and-done.

I think your minutes for Oweh are low.
I suspect he will be preseason First-Team ALL-SEC and will play at least 30 minutes, after having played 25 and 28 the previous two (2) years. He will lead us in minutes played again this season. Also, after averaging 16 mpg for Bama, I suspect Dioubate will average more than 18 for us … at least 20 minutes.
