Round one of two Rivalry week in DVC/NVC

well it is Rivalry week one of two in the DVC/NVC.

I think this first one is “non conference” and the second one a few weeks later is the Conference game.

Naperville Central vs Naperville North: who do you like in this game and why?

Neuqua Valley vs Waubonsie Valley: who do you like in this game and why?

First game NC/NN:

I’m going with NC. This is as close to a must win in week three as you can get for both teams and NC is ranked and NN is not,....so going with the experts on this one. NC still has to play some state champion from Kentucky and Perianal 6A power Cary Grove, so there is little room for error in order for them to make the playoffs. NN has Metea twice which is nice but still has Huntley/Neuqua/Waubonsie so one would think they really need to at least split the NC series to have some sort of reasonable path to the playoffs.

Second game NV/WV:

The second game? I will borrow the distresses from the fox valley guys - Neuqua is the Huntley of the NVC - big school, big enrollment. But enough with the excuses - More to the point, they have a tough D, a great multi purpose RB threat (that will be playing and be back from the national rugby stuff) and they are ranked. It is a Rivalry game - so anything can happen?

Neuqua has A bit of an easier non con schedule remaining with Jacobs and Normal versus Waubonsie heading to 2017 8A Semi finalist Edwardsville and then later in the year hosting defending back to back 6A state champ Praire Ridge. So even beyond the Rivalry aspect of the game - I think WV really needs to at minimum split the series (preferably win game one) while Neuqua has a bit more non con schedule breathing room in their last two non con games.

Metea is Waubonsie’s rival (war of Eola Road) if anyone should be playing Metea twice it should be Dub V and not those Huskies from Naperville North!!

I would agree.........if I were a WV fan. I actually lived in MV boundaries for a couple years.

But really, NN plays both NC and Matea 2x. I think they are the only NVC with only 3 games against non coon foes.

You are correct sir. NN is the only team that does two double dips (play NC twice and MV twice) and they have only 3 non con games.

Not sure why that is - but with 5 teams there would be one that would not have to play a team twice. Maybe they thought that was unfair or something as Metea would have no problem lining up 5 reasonable non conference games like their current non con schedule for this year (just adding one more like Lockport or one of the Thorns or something).

Think this one is a toss up but I'll take NV over WV. NV hung in there and battled against an experienced and talented Stevie plus gets back Chev this week. WV offense seemed to have struggled last week as Vodoo mentioned and going off that I'm thinking they struggle to produce. 13-7 NV

I think the NVC team's uphill battles to make the playoffs this year are becoming one of the more exciting story lines this season. It'll be a blast to watch how the next 7 weeks shake out but man would it be a shame to see the 8A bracket without NN NV and WV.

I honestly think it would be a stretch goal to get 3 playoff teams.

Realistically there will probably only be 2,,,,

and it’s conceivable (worst case scenario) that only 1 team makes the playoffs from this conference.

Will be very interesting to see how it plays out but with playing in Conference teams twice - that is a killer for the ability to get multiple teams into the playoffs paired with the non con schedules of NC/NV/NN/WV

I honestly don’t know but I would think yes you get to count it twice otherwise it would be like playing 8 games unless you won both of the matchups and then you would at least get the two wins to count toward 5 or 6 wins needed.

A deep team with 30 plus solid HS players and plenty of D2 and D3 talent that play together as a unit/team can beat a lot of teams with superior talent in a few positions and below average talent in other spots on the field

Third - no one is suggesting that any team in Illinois would hang with IMG or corona.

Fourth (and most important) - did you see the sign on the forum? It says Illinois HS football. We discuss football around the state.

Seems like the general consensus thus far!! Those rivalry games can be tricky! Although it didn’t look tricky for the Ramblers over the Trevs last week! I’m hoping for an upset in one of the games though

NC will beat down NN.

I think Neuqua handles WV but in a tight affair. Having Chevy back is obviously the difference. Neuqua’s D played with Stevie until they realized we had no threats offensively.

As for IMG....they don’t count as a HS program as they have players from all over the country.
