It's a varsity program, for years it has been there purely to make Title IX work, and has never scored any Director's Cup points in the 22 year history I have tracked. But, after COVID we had a head coaching change and the team has actually slowly improved each year. On the old board the one yearly post would just be whether or not the team had any chance not to finish last at the conference meet, the idea of the team being ranked was unheard of!

Yes, the HC, Erin Neppel, use to be an top assistant for UVA. UVA's rowing team is use to being ranked and winning. This coach is no different. She has a good staff in place. The recruiting is 100% better. She wants to win and she wants to put our program on the map. She also rowed at UNC. Here is a bio of her accomplishments for you to read.

CRCA COACHES POLL: WEEK 7 - CRCA

Week 7 of the CRCA Coaches Poll, ranking the top collegiate rowing programs in the country. Presented by Pocock Racing Shells.

We were ranked 22nd last week.

We finished 5th at the Lake Wheeler invitational, jointly hosted by UNC & dook

Order of finish was pretty much right on the rankings:

1. #8 UVA
2. #13 dook
3. #15 Alabama
4. #14 Miami
5. #22 UNC
6. unranked team, not sure who?
7. #25 Oklahoma
8. 13 other unranked D1 teams from ACC, Big XII and Patriot

ACC Championships start this Friday in Raleigh (Lake Wheeler)

For the NCAA there are 22 teams total: 11 automatic qualifiers and 11 at-large bids. So we are currently on the outside looking in: the bubble is probably in the 14-18 ranking range

We beat Duke’s time in 3 of 5 races. And beat Miami in 4 of 5 races. Maybe that helps move us up in the rankings, pending if we can repeat it tomorrow in the finals.

This team has made a gigantic leap in the last few years. From “why do we even have a team” to top half of the ACC which given the California teams is now a very good conference.
