Trying to think of something good to say...

...if he can recruit us a couple more Aurelious Benns, that would be great. That guy was a beast for the Illini.

Hate to say I saw this coming but as much trouble as UK had luring anyone to be the OC last year, I just couldn't believe it would be that easy to sign seal deliver Gran. UK settled on Dawson, and I won't be surprised to see UK have to settle again.

Hey there.

Justin's initial assessment was almost certainly based on two parties' high initial level of enthusiasm (Gran seemed like a good fit for UK and UK seemed like a good fit for Gran). And, on the surface, what's not to like? Despite its struggles in recent years, UK is still in the SEC, and the latter provides a great opportunity for offensive-minded coaches (be they QBC or OC) to challenge themselves against the best defenses in the country, often with a high-paying and surprisingly stable* seat at the table.

The benefits of moving into such a position must be weighed against the risks, however. Fair or not, the OC position at UK has almost certainly gained a reputation for recent turnover. That alone may not speak to much, but if the perception develops that OC is the default fall guy for the football program, many candidates who express an initial interest may have second thoughts when delving deeper (i.e. talking with former staff). While I still think Gran to UK is a very good possibility, I do think Justin may have called this one a bit too quickly.

*In comparison to SEC HC and DC positions

My uneducated guess is that nothing was signed br Gran and Stoops decided after the bowl game to backtrack on it as there was no,way to spin it and Gan would hurt rather than help season ticket sales.

I hasten to add that unlike others claim on this board I have no inside info,,
If you're trying to imply Stoops is changing his judgment on Gran due to his last game - without his starting QB against a good D & where the UC special teams started them in a hole - versus looking at Gran's overall body of work, then that's a problem with Stoops.

Appears from JR;s report, Gran might be having second thoughts, because of Our QB depth situation.

That article also says that Maryland has a verbal from a four star QB named Haskins, due to Locksley, that may now be in doubt. Maybe Locksley brings Haskins with him, and Gran can't get Kiel to come along. Just a guess...

I think it is a bad sign for Gran being the guy that we aren't having a press conference today (at least an PC hasn't been announced that I am aware of). Not saying that it can't still happen, but I would think that Stoops would have already had him tied up if it were him. I guess we'll see.

Gran is holding out for a 5 year garentee. It's all about negotiating from a position of strength. Imo.

He had a Christmas Eve game in Hawaii, then probably celebrated the holiday, traveled, took time to unwind ... It's Monday. Let's be patient.

I don't know if that is exactly what is going on, but I am guessing that the current hang up does have to do with contract negotiations.
