Yeah, the relentless positivity has clearly done ZERO for this team. The only problem here is that I don't think yelling at this group will help much. What they really lack is talent and ability. I don't think this team has the ability to be a good team. You can't fix that.

My fear here is, if thats true.. thats not something that can be changed. You can learn defense as a coach, you can tweak your recruiting pitch.. but you cant just become a hard-*** or demand respect.

Some people have that DOG in them.. if Pope doesnt have at least a little bit, this wont work. Ever.

It's difficult to really say that because the effort just isn't there. If you're a believer in controlling variables, like I am, then the one constant (should be) is effort. Start there and you'll have a better picture. Pope is 100% responsible for everything's that happening until that constant is present.

Pope is too nice and soft. The head man has to be tough. You cannot be a players friend. They have to fear you. With NIL players egos have gotten out of hand.

If you mean "fear" as in the old term for "respect" then I agree.

Ruling by fear (aka dictatorship) never works in the long term.

There are three types of leaders.

1. The Dictators/********- These dudes live by power trip and arrogance. And the only way they know how to lead is by force and pulling out the leader gun of "I'm in charge damn it! Listen to me or else!" This only works for so long and so often. Don't get me wrong, sometimes you have to use your authority in that way. But there's a reason most dictators end up with severed necks or an extra body hole. No one likes them. And at the first sign/chance of weakness: game, set, match.

2. The Delustionist/Everyone's Pal- These dudes go too far the other way and try to make everyone happy and lead with false promises, emotional candy, and unicorn farts. Again, there's times when you need to use positivity and hope. There's times when you need to reward people for good work and sometimes even for just being there (when times are hard). But if that's your de facto style, no one will respect you in the long run. They might like you or even work for you. But you'll never achieve much. However, these types of leaders may also avoid hard decisions and good conflict.

3. The True Leader- These dudes strike the right balance of accountability and coaching/developing. They lay down the law when needed and uphold standards. They don't pull out the "I'm in charge!" gun except when absolutely necessary. They also don't mollycoddle. But they will treat people AS people and acknowledge faults but offer opportunism for growth. They get down in the ditch with people when needed but will not micromanage. They do things for their people (recognize good work and social aspects- birthdays, work anniversaries, etc) and they hold standards as needed. They lead themselves first. They seek out growth and engage in GOOD conflict as needed. They're also the rarest type.

Right now, Pope is being No. 2 I think.

Headlined by colin chandler? what does that even mean?
I think it was awkwardly worded but he meant that CC is the best player on the team.

It does read like he’s saying Chandler is headlining the problems but I think it was just poorly worded.

Chandler would’ve been a nice bench piece for an actual UK caliber team, but if he’s truly our best player that says a lot.

None of this is the issue and here we go with Rowland avoiding the real topics which are HOW DOES MITCH STILL WORK AT THIS UNIVERSTITY. The media needs to get in there and start doing their job. This is way deeper than Mark and everyone knows it. Why is this media not making calls and investigating the deeper issue that is how has Barnhart survived what ZERO other AD’s in this conference have? 23 years of mediocrity and garbage. Who is keeping him in that seat and how do you rid of us the administration. I don’t want anymore of this bottom problem solving. GO TO THE TOP.
They’re all scared of their access I guess.

That’s how I took it but he could have got his point across without tweeting out his name .

None of these players wanted to play for Pope except CC. The Kentucky kids wanted to be there for the school before Pope, but everyone else playing right now were plan D, E and F type players who only came because of the massive paychecks. Without the money, we wouldn't have a team
They overpaid for Jasper Johnson because Pope didn't want to be embarrassed losing a top local high school player within a short drive from your campus to an out of state school.

Same with Gillespie hiring Illinois assistant Tracey Webster to get Darius Miller because Scotty Hopson was going to Tennessee.

I think if anything else, this says that we need to increase our NIL budget by about 8-15M from the current 22. That should be able to load our roster.
Pope wouldn’t be able to manage a team of big egos like that.

Mitch still works at this university because Capiluto loves him like a son.
I don’t know how Capiluto still has a job at this university either. The money needs to pull the weight and stop this insider ******** from going on. Doesn’t matter how much Cap likes him, he’s killing the major athletics at Kentucky and has to go.

The politicians in the state also need to begin to add the pressure. This is not Capiluto and Barnharts clubhouse. Get those guy into retirement for fire them, there’s nothing else can be done.

And they’ve both had major scandals happen on the swim and football teams. What happened to the swim team scandal? All of a sudden, didn’t hear anything else.

Anyone still thinking Pope is the right man for the job is either a fan of a rival school or stupid.
