RRS, Dangerous Game

Would prefer the Horns come in ranked rather than a team backed into a corner. They can make their season by winning Saturday. They were not very good last year but should have won the game. This game reminds me of 2013 when Sooners entered the game heavily favored but got blown out by the Horns.

Sooners better enter the Cotton Bowl expecting a battle because it will be one at the start of the game. I'll be at ease once were up by 3 scores.

This is no doubt the key. This Texas team overall is pretty down, but they will come into this game putting it all on the line. Nothing would help their pride more than beating OU and ending OUs bid to stay undefeated. They really have nothing to lose, which makes them dangerous. But I think if OU can come out and kick them in the mouth and get up early on by a few scores, then it will break them. Their will and desire will crumble. But OU needs to set that tone early on, break them, and not let them hang around. The longer OU lets Texas hang with them in this game, the more it will feed into their confidence.

If UT comes out to an empty end of the stadium their morale will be low and we will stomp a mud hole in them. If they come out to a full burnt orange end of the stadium we can expect a fight beyond anything they have displayed yet this year. Morale and momentum is powerful combo. I believe there is a phrase in Greek Mythology about "no glory goes to those that defeat a warrior wounded by another".

I agree, LTS. We shouldn't take what's happening down in Austin as a certain win even though most Sooner fans are really enjoying the Horn's implosion. I certainly am. Take away the special team miscues and UT could easily be 3-2 instead of 1-4. But there is no denying that OU is the better team by far, so the Sooners just need to go take care of business and leave no doubt. This is an opportunity to make a very big statement to OU's Texas recruits that will attend the game.

Oh, I can think of far more worthy topics to be concerned about.
I say that based on Stoops' weekly show.
They had Matt Dimon on there last night and I believed him when he said no one on the team is taking the Texas game like it's a given they'll win.
He and Stoops both reiterated they'll prepare with the same sense of urgency they would if they were preparing for Baylor or TCU.

Besides, has worrying about a game ever ensured a win?

4Real - don't get me wrong....I'm not Greek...I take no mercy where Texas is concerned. It is the nature of our enemy that defines the measure of beatdown we put up. In this case 99 - 0 is warranted. We are fortunate that the most lopsided victories have been delivered by OU.

Texas has two very solid running backs. Their Oline can't be worse than OUrs.

Their DLine isn't as deep, but may have the best defensive tackle on the field Saturday. Their linebackers, with the freshman that OU recruited hard is pretty solid. They usually are very solid in the defensive backfield.

OU is better at receiver, but not by that much. But this is one of those rivalries where the guy whose missed extra point cost them OT against a ranked team, will hit a 50 yard field goal, just because of his adrenaline. They won't screw up a punt snap. They'll catch all the good punt snaps and average 50 net yards per kick.

My guess is that Swoopes might start. He played decently last year, and was pretty good for a half. Without the pick six and the KO return, it might not have been a Sooner day.

I think we're better. But not enough better than less that a great effort will beat them. Maybe we steal a recruit or two, like AD in 2003.

Anybody remember 65-13? Best seats I ever had for the RRR.

A winning attitude is a tangible that Sooners have built on, and the Shorthorns are yet to really sniff...a win at Rice at home is not exactly a win/win. Sooners should break out of the gates early, and pressure on Heard to create some turnovers. I can see Shep having a huge game in his last RRS.

Question #1 - how many UT fans will be in the Cotton Bowl at the start of the game? My guess- 85% maximum
Question #2 - if OU gets to an early lead and begins to roll, what percentage will still be in their seats by the end of the third quarter? My guess - 25%
I remember in the 2000 game, that whole end of the stadium was virtually deserted. Here is to the next episode in watching the Longhorn faithful slipping out quietly, except for the cursing!

Dangerous? I'm not worried in the least about this game. Yes, I remember 2013, 45-35, the Gary Gibbs years when we were favored to win more than one RRS and lost, etc., etc., etc.

I get it's a rivalry game, it's their bowl game, they're wounded and backs up against the wall, but I just don't see OU losing this game, unless we do it to ourselves. And even then, I don't think the have the horses on offense or defense to pull off the upset.

It will be a cold day in hell if the horns beat OU this week.

I dunno man. I'm thinking things will be completely the opposite going into the game against OU. OU is their biggest rival. Everyone of those players sign at Texas with the thoughts of beating OU each year. That alone means they will all put their differences aside and agree that beating OU is all the matters.....at least until OU goes up by a few TDs, then I think your idea of them fighting and being unorganized will come to fruition as the realization of losing to OU hits home and they lose all hope and their will and desire sink into the abyss.

You are so far off base.... Texas has 2 players who could play significant time at OU and that's Ridgeway and Jefferson. The OU RB's and receivers are so much better than anything Texas has. You must have been drinking when you wrote this post.

People in Austin are a little like the sports fans in L.A. They come late and stay early. I'm guess that a lot of those empties were late arriving students for an early game.

Texas has nothing to play for this year anymore except this game. Heard had a really decent game last week. If we dont take this game seriously it may be tighter than expected. A couple of Bam Bam plays by Texas, some broken coverage, a untimely turnover leading to points and we may be chasing Bevo's tail. We have to dominate this entire game if we want people to believe we are a serious contender. And the penalties have to go...we cant afford them later in the schedule when the big games come up. Bob needs to put aside all his good feelings toward his fellow Big 12 coaches and let Texas have it. We have to have a better showing tha n the 50-7 shellacking TCU with all their injuries out on them. Run the score up on them dont let them off the hook like he did against WV. Anything less that 70 points would be embarrassing.

I'm thinking different than most. I think if OU hits them in the mouth and go up as few as 10-0, the Horns will fold. I don't believe they have a desire to play for Strong and as CT said, they are a team divided.

Now... if OU comes in and lala-gags around and allows them to stsy in the game, it could get tough. IMO, this game comes down to OU's performance and not UT's performance. The Sooners need to come out of the tunnel jacked up with a desire to kick ***. Nothing less is acceptable.

I forget who it was on the radio this afternoon... Said that Lincoln Riley just doesn't get this rivalry yet. But the first time he sees the Horns come out of the tunnel acting like they won something, Riley's hatred will boil over.
