Rutgers University, New Brunswick undergraduate enroll - 5,742 29,882 or 84% in-state

New Jersey is exporting too many college students and importing too few.

this is true …but NB at 84% in state is actually lower than the high 80s/almost 90% of the last decade

I really think for Rutgers-

My son never spoke of anything other than lacrosse and girls, until the RBS presentation, which was excellent. It became his first choice. He never got off the waitlist, so transferred from SAS to RBS after his freshman year. The BAMM dorm room tour in Allen was rough. Dark and dank smelling was a total turn off. IMO the single campus of PSU-UVA-UMD is the better option, but RU is what RU is. 2 for 2 and both my kids had a great experience at RU !

You touch on something that I still think holds back new brunwswick .

the new housing and dining in the last 10 years continues to get raves and high demand ….honors college , BEST , sojourn , Easton Ave, Livingston appartment …even the Busch suites. The livi dining hall gets real raves

but there needs to be a lot more ….the rest of college Ave dorms needs a rebuild …



The college town is appealing to the personality of the kid…and is very good . But the housing and dining offered by the school …needs a reinvestment and rebuild over the next 10 years ….

My oldest is at RU. My youngest had overkill on his applications but ultimately got accepted early action to Tennesee, Auburn, Colorado, Miami OH, SHU, Clemson, Arizona, Kentucky....still waiting on Pitt and Tampa. He's also getting money from most. His application to RU NBR was deferred. He's still in the decision process.

NJ resident my entire life. RU Grad, Donor and Parent. Youngest has been going to games since he was 3. His reaction was F Rutgers! I kind of feel the same way.

My youngest nephew is a student at Clemson and has loved it. He also applied to and was admitted to some of the schools you mentioned-Rutgers, Auburn, Tennessee in addition to TCNJ. It is in a great town and not only is the campus beautiful, but the area includes mountains and big lakes. The Business School just opened a large brand new building. He had very good grades and AP courses in high school so he got so much aid that the cost at Clemson is about the same as if he had gone to Rutgers.He met a terrific Southern girl who got a Nursing job eight months before graduation. —I went down to Knoxville this Fall to see a Tennessee game. Although I don’t like cities,the campus didn’t have an urban feel to it. Tennessee River is right next to the stadiums and arena. Smokie Mountains surround Knoxville. People in both states are very nice. As far as fan bases, I can’t imagine any are more passionate than Vols fans.

I'm puzzled Rutgers doesn't do more about this. New dorms can be paid for by issuing revenue bonds -- bonds secured by the money that the dorms will generate. The bonds don't add to the university's debt burden. As you say, better dorms would do a lot to make Rutgers more attractive to prospective students.

Let us look at facts. The 84% is normal for the last decade.

Here is the report from 2015. Thirteen percent out-of-state Rutgers New Brunswick undergrad. Page 15 of 71.

Right in line with mid to high 80s in-state for decades.
