After a narrow escape on the road, including probably the five most cardiac of Cardiac Cats minutes fans have experienced since the Randy Walker Era, NU hosts Rutgers at New Ryan Field on Saturday.

NU still has a long list of injured players (particularly in the secondary) and Oregon looms next week, so the Cats need a win while staying healthy. Rutgers after a rough start to the season has played some competitive games in the B1G (USC) and has more conference wins than Penn State.

The Cats should win this one, but it might be a grind.

Rutgers would have the best WR in the BIG if it weren't for that kid in Columbus. They will score some points against our depleted secondary, especially if we can't generate any kind of pass rush.

We don't feel good, we don't feel bad. We move on to Oregon.

Tough one to figure. We are fifth in explosive plays in the nation against a defense second to last is giving up explosive plays. They have a receiver who will be a first round draft pick and we have a secondary that has key players missing. It sounds like a high scoring game. So how come I think it will be a low scoring slugfest?

What it should logically be
NU 40
RU 27

what I actually expect
NU 16

Clyde Barrow over Tony Soprano in a shootout.

Lack of pass rush and spotty DB play keep this close.

NU - 24
Rutgers - 21

Cardiac CATS show up again. You're hoping for a decisive W, but your team is the Cardiac CATS.

NU gameplan will likely be to control possession with long, slow drives. Rutgers O looked good against USC.

Maybe Himon will break a couple this week.

Ball control to keep the Rutgers offense on the sidelines. Pound the their defense to eventually open up the pass game. This is a game we should dominate and win but Rutgers cannot be overlooked as we approach the upcoming trio of tough games - Oregon, Iowa and Ohio State. Oregon is a little down this year but will be hard to beat at home and Ohio State away is too big to expect victory. Iowa at Ryan may be our best shot smong the 3 key challenging contest among rsnked teams. Taking Rutgers with a solid offense win would be a great setup for those trio of games.

Make it stop!!! The trio of games, of which you write, has now expanded to a quintet with Minny and ILL joining the mix. This will certainly be an interesting month ahead.

Interesting, had you combined the high of the high (NU 40) and the low of the low (RU 13) you would have had the winning prognostication.
