Maybe I'm clueless, but how in the hell does OU have defensive players that haven't learned how to tackle at this point in their career? Did KU have some kind of special anti-tackle strategy that OU players haven't seen before? Some kind of moves that they used against tackling that required OU's coaches to spoon feed tackling instructions to the players?

I don't get it. At all.

There really just needs to be a house cleaning of the defensive coaches. Bring in a new set of coaches with a totally new mindset. The coaches on defense that Bob left Riley is just embarrassing. It's a disaster. I don't blame Ruffin for not being able to fix it this 2nd half of the season. I am more inclined to blame Riley for not doing the right thing after the Georgia game last year. Another historic offense wasted again cuz the defense is just historically bad.

I'm not interested in comments by any OU coach or journalist anymore. I know what I am seeing with this team without listening to others.
With no defense, this team isn't likely to win three more games, with any shot of a national championship looking virtually impossible. Does what has happened this year.....and especially last night....give us any real hope of beating West Virginia, Texas and another top ten team in a bowl game ?
And now, it's possible that Brooks may be the lone running back to finish the season. Yet more pressure for Murray to carry the team by himself.
It's time the Oklahoma program was run like a business and not a refuge for hiring buddies and brothers. These ridiculous high scoring games are a major blemish on the OU record books and the OU legacy.
Forget the 10-1 record and whether or not Murray can win the Heisman. This team has crippling issues this season and beyond that must be addressed and are more important than anything that will happen over the next two months.
I'm witnessing a football program painting itself into a corner with its apparent disregard of defensive football.

CT, I'm sure this week we will hear the usual coach speak about how close this defense is and they just need to keep pushing to get better.

NEXT WEEK IS THE FINAL GAME OF THE REGULAR SEASON!!!!

If they haven't figured it out by now then it's just a lost cause. I mean jesus christ the season is almost over and they can't even tackle worth a damn yet. This defense has just gotten worse as the season went along. It's almost like they have no pride or shame. Mentally I think this defense has just quit for the season. Which is sad because there is still a chance to play for so much!!!

This is how Kansas stacks up against Big XII competition offensively:

Kansas scored 40 against Oklahoma.
17 against Kansas State
3 against Iowa State
27 against TCU
16 against Texas Tech
22 against West Virginia
28 against Oklahoma State
7 against Baylor

I can’t think of anything to say.

Obviously Lincoln Riley needs to start attending the defensive meetings with players and coaches and chew some ***. Anything he can say won’t make it any worse, but everyone needs to understand this is not exceptable and should hear it directly from him.

Well lets hope a new DC is coming shortly that will jerk a knot in their asses. Like I literally think every defensive players scholarship should be on the line after this season. They should have to earn to keep their scholarship spot in the off season and the spring.

I don’t normally don’t pay too much attention to board rumors, but based on yesterday’s defensive performance against the fricking Kansas Jayhawks, the new Bama hire rumor may have some merit. That type of rumor at this point in the season may have influenced the play. Surely we are not that inept. 40 points by Kansas. Jesus.

Well, you know, OU has a target on their backs against everyone we play.
We get everyone's best.
We are their bowl game.

You're right about board rumors man. Take them with a grain of salt. But two posts in particular on the pay board yesterday really got my attention about the future at DC.

If I saw LR get fired up about the defense and appear like he has some interest, I would have some hope. The horrible tackling...the defensive game plan...and lack of leadership will doom this team next Friday. This is the FIRST time in program history the Sooners have given up 40 plus points. Only one time before have the Sooners given up 40 plus points to KU....this was 23 years ago. To say this vessel is adrift and headed to the rocks is alarming. LR just stands there numb to sh*tty defensive play. He is still an OC. A head coach would have more fire about a failed defense. Players are just going through the motions at a time when we should be focused and making a statement. Ruffin is not in any way worthy of remaining an OU Coach.

Ruffin has set a record OU has never given up 40 points in 3 straight games, he will continue that record next week and hopefully he'll get a chance to go for 5 straight games with 40 points or more, Congrats Ruffin I hope thats a record that will never be broken.

So it's Ruffin's fault he can't pull off a miracle in the middle of the season with the disaster he inherited from Mike?

Wonder how soon we will be reminded about how OU is 10-1 with a great offense, and how well we would punish Alabama with our explosive offense.
The only thing OU has in common with Alabama are the school colors.

The Sooners had essentially one player to defend on KU. This is on Ruffin and his merry band of misfits for not stopping this one guy. It is not like KU is mighty and one to be feared. I really can’t see LR trying to smooth things by saying things like world class athletes and championship caliber when talking about this defense. Neither fits. Fans are growing restless with this group of players and coaches. No leadership. No fire. Lots of smoke.

The defense sucks. But saying Riley doesn’t care is BS. He already fired the DC. He’s 1.5 years in and canned his predecessors brother. The replacement was always temporary. Ultimately Riley is accountable for the crap defense.. but let’s not act like he is sitting with his thumbs up his *** waiting for it to fix itself.. and if rumors are correct, he’s wasted little time naming a replacement. Whether or not the next guy pans out is anyone’s guess.. but Lincoln has been anything but complacent.

Fair point. But I really think the true blame lays in Riley not firing Mike after the Rose Bowl last year. I think to the vast majority of people there clearly needed to be a change!! But he didn't. So that set the tone for this year and the pathetic defensive issues to continue. And sadly, Ruffin is having to deal with being handed a complete cluster in the middle of the year.

Lots of good comments in this thread I totally agree with. There is nothing wrong with our fans being brutally honest.

With that being said I admit I have very little faith that OU will beat WV Friday. Its not often I feel this way but I just dont see OU outscoring WV this time around. Riley is a great coach but he will never reach the ultimate greatness until he gets a real defense. Most of us remember the great D from the late 60s forward and some like CT, OKlabama, Senior got to experience the 50s.

If OU wins and goes on to beat Texas I will be highly surprised but this team is not a final 4 playoff team.

I think you're wrong. WVU will get 40+ on us. But it isn't Ruffin dude. Please post less.

One game changing factor Friday is that it should be a rainy and muddy game in Morgantown with temps in the 40’s. This will be a sloppy game in many ways. Hope Sermon is back. We will need him. Gallimore too.

Is Murray a 'mudder' ? He'll have to be if those are the conditions

I think this will impact things more negatively for the Sooners if Sermon and Pledger are no go’s. Time will tell on forecast model updates on how hard the rain falls Friday night.

I thought West Virginia had field turf.

How am I wrong its a fact, and even you agree it will a fourth straight game next week. Ruffin is the DC so 40 straight points against OU is on him, would the same thing happened if Mike was here, probably, but facts are facts Ou has never given up 40 points in 3 straight games until this year.

Go ahead... fault Ruffin. You look foolish though. This mess isn't on Ruffin. He inherited this hot mess. But it really doesn't matter. What matters is the Lincoln hire.

Ruffin may not be the ultimate answer, be he's not the current problem. He inherited defensive players that are either not very good or not well coached....or both.

Anyone know if 'bookie-hiles' is ok ? I'm surprised he wasn't on a stretcher or whatever, the way he left the field last night. Yes the Defense is totally inept WAY TOO many times but some of these kids are literally playing their guts off for our entertainment. We will be better, hopefully Sooner rather than later

Might you mean Justin Broiles? I'm not sure Bookie made contact with anyone last night? o_O
