On this board there will be plenty of people claiming PSU players weren't. They're probably wrong, but there was a massive holier than thou attitude amongst our fanbase for decades.

How were they getting paid? If they were getting paid by the university that would have been a violation. Same if they were getting paid by agents or boosters. Of course uncle Charlie might buy his nephew a new car hoping that the nephew would reciprocate once he made it to the NFL. Those types of things would be difficult to enforce.
