And that description is very close to “the invisible hand” governing free economies.
If there are programs that can garner no NIL support, why should they, in a free economy, survive?
Harsh, but the reality faced by all individuals/businesses in a free society, with a pretty thick safety net for individuals.
You make a really good counter argument. If UK can't create enough NIL to be viable....do we really need to have football at UK? So how about we just roll up the tents in Lexington, Nashville, Starkville, Oxford, Columbia, Mizzou, Fayetteville (unless Walmart throws their hat in the ring),etc..
And just have Bama, UGA, LSU, Tennessee, Texas AM, maybe Auburn, maybe Florida and be done with it. Because that is the path it's going to probably end up. Look no further than MLB where teams just have all star rosters and 1/3 of bottom teams can't afford by 1-2 well paid players to compete with. I guess from my vantage point having teams like UK, South Carolina, Ole miss, etc...to have some level of playing field to compete with Bama, LSU, UGA, etc... does make for a leauge that draws interest does it not?
