Interesting press conference from Coach Held today. Most people consider the RB room one of the few bright spots but yards per carry doesn’t mean much if we’re not getting in the end zone. Based on today’s press conference and the fact that we have three RB commits for 2019, it appears that Coach Held agrees. As the schedule gets tougher it’ll be interesting to see if they progress or digress. Doesn’t sound like they plan to rotate Jones or Bradley in. Held seems to be sticking with the current 3-man rotation. I’d still like to see them get more creative in the play calling and look to identify a home-run hitter that can get the 70 yard run. If the running backs don’t get in the end zone this week I may start to get worried about the offense even under the leadership of the great Coach Frost.

This has been one of our solid positions but we’re not elite yet, so I’m glad that Held is being critical.

I'd like to see a guy who won't get chased down from behind become our feature back. I think that would really help open up our offense. Maurice Washington is the only guy that fits the bill, but he's been limited in snaps. Is there really no other guy on the team that has decent running ability and good speed?

That was a telling aspect of the preseason hype this summer. Fans were getting all excited about the backs. There was even a radio talk show host who speculated that Bell might go pro after only one season. Then there was the reality that the coaching staff was recruiting three or even four backs for next season. Why recruit so many? Well, that should have told us all we need to know about how the staff felt about the current stable of backs. They are definitely looking for an upgrade.

Yep totally agree. Nobody's job is safe next season.

They might be recruiting three backs because two are seniors - Wilbon and Ozigbo.

How do you suggest Frost get more creative? I want to hear that conversation between you and him about that creativity thing.

Haven’t seen any jetsweeps to the slots or this DuckR hybrid role they talked so much about all offseason.

Even with losing two we’ll have 8 RBs (not including walk-ons) next year. Wish we could’ve used two of those scholarships to get more depth at OL or QB.
