Russo to Temple

I was always worried about him. His offer list should have been much better after his elite 11 performance. Recruiters saw something that most here didn't.

I think Russo seems like he could really be a player on the D1A level and was really happy when he was committed here, but I do admit something like what you're saying was in the back of my mind. This reminds me of when a 5-1 team is playing a 1-5 team yet Vegas has the game as a pick'em. 7-8 times out of 10 'Vegas knows'.

Who knows why the kid doesn't have better offers. Maybe recruiters felt that he was throwing to multiple D1 receivers without getting his uniform dirty. You would think that his performance in the Elite 11 would have alleviated any concerns. Either way, in the right offense this kid could have gone down as one of the better QBs RU has had. Based on the type of QB offers this staff has given out, this staff is not going to run that offense.
Wish the kid luck. He should have a chip on his shoulder proving recruiters wrong.

I think this may be a reliable source, others would probably know better.

Kyle is as good a source as there is on Temple, so this is real.

It's a great get by Temple, and the offense will be a better fit for him than Mehringer's, but I was under the impression that Russo likely would've stayed with Rutgers had they retained Barthel, as much as he liked the entire Fludd staff.

In reality, this is a great get for the Owls, and while kids like him don't grow on trees, Rutgers will get a kid more suited to its style of O.

Yeah - actually I'm confused by anybody who
definitively & emphatically says that Russo WILL or WILL NOT succeed.
There are no sure things - either way - and he definitely has pros & cons

On the field injury free is all I'll wish him because I'm not concerned how good he plays or not.
He's an Owl so let the Owl fans worry if he plays good or is a washout.

they may not have been thinking that Russo was the QB that would part the waters & lead them to the promised land ... but ..
- they invested time
- they invested some 'clout' and reputation by saying 'we are LSU & we want to talk'
- they genuinely pursued him - and it was reported in numerous articles
- they had to figure he was theirs for the taking - because - hey they are LSU
- Russo was touted as potentially being the 'solution' to their QB problem

Then Russo essentially throws cold water on them ... ends the process by selecting Temple

of all the things that Les Miles & Cam Cameron needed to transpire during the completion of this recruiting season - this was definitely not one of them - especially with the prevailing skeptical attitude about them in a large part of the LSU fan base. This isn't lethal - but it must really sting.

Haskins is visiting and he was and is LSU's first choice.
But if he doesn't commit, Russo to Temple will be a bigger loss than it looks like now to the

According to LSU sites they are going all in for Haskins and he is their top target. MacVittie (Pitt QB) and Russo would essentially be the consolation prize if Haskins didn't commit. Perhaps, Russo saw the writing on the wall since LSU hasn't officially offered him yet anyway.

That would be a good reason to pull the trigger and take what is in the hand now rather than hope to get a LSU offer if they can't get their first choice and not extend one if they do.

Maybe the answer is simple. Maybe the reason why he doesn't have too many P5 offers is because, he's not as good as many here would like him to be. Also, regarding having that chip on the shoulder, does anybody think he's the type? More like he's afraid of competition which is why he's going to Temple.

Honestly, I have no idea how he will pan out in college. But many here are proclaiming him the next Dan Marino.

Take this for what it's worth. The scouting report that I've heard on him was this:
Pros: Accurate, especially short range and very productive HS career.
Cons: Arm not great and might get exposed in college with faster corner backs. Weird delivery. Slow and flat footed.

He was a goner as soon as Mehringer was hired. All the reports about him wanting Russo was all PR because the new staff could not just drop him. he had to be the one to decommit., Look for the other Pro style QB at Rutgers to leave. Bring in the dual threats needed to make this offense click. The fact that the staff has 4 Dual threats offered should not be a surprise...that was the plan.

I'm not sure about all this when the staff is still trying to call him and ringing his doorbell...and simply getting a "Sorry, I'm doing the dishes....can't answer now" response...something doesn't smell right from his end...not the staff.

FWIW, it was mentioned on TOS that the staff was making Russo a priority however he may have recieved some misinformation (not sure what) along with negative recruiting from other schools and took the bait despite what RU coaches told him. If true, its unfortunate he would take the word of others rather than give the RU staff the benefit of doubt. In the end, guess it worked out for the best and hope we land our guy soon!

I wouldn't go that far. According the LSU-centric account I read this morning, Haskins is their clear preference, but they aren't too optimistic about their chances with him (though not without any confidence). And after Haskins, Russo was the clear No. 2 choice, so they actually are sweating quite a bit there. Again, this was as per a LSU news/blog. In doubt Les Miles would've been at Archbishop Wood yesterday, less than three weeks before signing day, if he wasn't courting Russo earnestly.

Would have liked him here...but I'm not heartbroken.

If what I'm hearing true and he was cowering even to talk to the staff..l.i wouldnt be confident in him against the onslaught of the B1G dlineman.

I'm also sick and tired of watching our opponents prepare for our pro style offense and not worry about our QB tucking and running. Haven't seen a duel threat since Ray Lucas and to a degree Mike McMahon. Makes watching your team exciting if you don't know if the QB is going to pass or run....not just sit back and wait for our WRs to get open...which wasn't too often....or get sacked or make bad decisions when not open.
