3 game winning shots in one game

Most impressive to me was how good the Rutgers defense was. At times I felt suffocated and I was sitting on my couch.

I watched the end of the game and Rutgers nearly blew it multiple times. What a half court shot by Ron Harper Jr. RU was missing their best guard in Baker.

Watching the ending, I was really envious of Rutgers. Obviously for getting the win, but more for the packed / pumped stadium.

Made me wonder if Purdue was playing at Welsh-Ryan in mid December and we took down a #1, how sad the crowd would have looked in the highlights.

If students were still on campus it would be, without question, a sold-out arena. We would 100% sell-out a game vs. the #1 team in the country. Get a clue.

By ‘we’, you mean Purdue fans, right? Purdue fans would fill the arena, except for the student section.

NU student attendance is generally driven by NU wins. Our students are good fans in that regard — when the hoops team is winning, the students fill both sides. But I don’t think student attendance is driven at all by opponent.

Does this mean the B1G sucks because bottom third Rutgers beat the #1 team in the nation or the B1G is deep because a lower team can beat the #1 team?

I guess I won’t count any game as a sure victory or sure loss.

I find it humorous that we have this debate over and over. Northwestern is what it is when it comes to student interest in athletics and local support (including alumni). NU has 8,000 undergrads. Rutgers has nearly 50,000 at their main campus (and over 70,000 across their three campuses). Rutgers has over 250,000 alumni who live in New Jersey. Using just undergrads from NU, it would takes us 125 years to generate 250,000 alumni regardless of location.

Let’s say you have 10% student interest in the basketball team (probably overstated, but why not). 10% of Rutgers undergrads would fill 63% of Welsh Ryan Arena.
