Nah, he's not "playing" the goofball, he legitimately is a goofball with no balls.
If Matt told him to eat a **** sandwich, he wouldn't hesitate.
I wish he would disagree with one damn thing Matt said, just one.
It’s an act. I’ve had business dealings with Ryan over the years, and the man is far more intelligent than the goofball he portrays on a radio show.

I like Ryan but got frustrated with him yesterday and turned the pre game show off. Look I'm listening to hear about UK sports. I don't need this #freematt B.S. THis is what got Matt Jones in the spot he's in. He started believing it was about him and not that he's covering UK sports. Just do the pregame show and talk about the game. Stop asking people to send you #freemattjones nonsense because nobody cares. Keep going down the Matt Jones path and they'll have to remove Ryan from the pre and post game shows as well.

Yes, and every bit as henpecked as one would think. He's a super nice guy who didn't marry well. He's just the sort that is most comfortable being abused. By Amanda, Matt, you name it. And playing the fool goes along with that.

I liked him when he did WLEX. Seems affable. When I used to listen to KSR alot before they jumped the shark IMO, I enjoyed him a lot at first until a buddy at work pointed out that almost all the time all Scoop does is echo or rephrase what was just said. Once you realize that, it gets real damn obnoxious. Also, to echo Bill....the whole nagging wife thing, its extremely annoying. If she's playing a role then its really worn out. And if thats how she actually is...well.....lets just say that isnt an asset to the show. Keep that stuff private. Now that we are in the heart of football and basketball season I do tune in here and there during the week and if theyre talking about sports then I give em a listen. When they go off on their tangents I switch the station or pull up one of my podcasts. To each his own.

The show suffers without Matt.
I really like Drew Franklin. He is knowledgeable, witty and has a great sense of humor. He should host the show and then Ryan could continue being Kemosabe....

My ex daughter-in-law lived next door to Ryan for a bit. Me and my wife still get along with our ex DIL, and we were over a lot for the grandkids. She is awesome, and let's us see them even when it's her time with the kids. It's no exaggeration, Amanda is the meanest woman I've ever encountered. And that's just what little I saw from the backyard, on our occasional visits.

Thats a shame. He seems like a good dude. A lot of fun, and really knowledgeable about KY HS stuff. Also a baseball guy. I really enjoy when he hosts shows on his own, like the Sunday morning call in show on WLAP. He does a great job filling in on there when Mark is off. Also loved the interactions he and Jared had on the radio. I always said those two need to do their own radio show. Its the right kind of goofy and actual sports knowledge insight. But I remember as a teenager watching him do WLEX sports. Always loved his broadcasts.

From what I know of Ryan, he really is a good dude. I wish him nothing but the best. And I wish Amanda would be a little more patient with him.

Matt has really screwed up his basketball brand with all the politics. I mean, he melted down on twitter this week. Kind of sad, really.. should have stuck to basketball, or politics.... hard to do both in this day and age of social media justice warriors....

Did you see the video where the dude threw Ryan in a mud puddle at the derby?

A lot of gullable folks out there that don’t understand entertainment. Guarantee they also think professional wrestling is real too.

Or, again, They could just hate everything associated with Matt Jones.

I've just never heard anything so inaccurate.

Nobody cares? He's literally built one of the biggest local radio sports show in history.

You think it's the depth of sports analysis that separates Matt's show from the billion other local sports talk hours that come and go never to be heard from again? Many have tried, and they've all failed

No, it's the shenanigans and the off-topic nonsense, most of which happens to have a sports theme.

If your angle is that you hate his politics, or that you prefer sports only shows, that's a perfectly understandable opinion, but it's so disingenuous to claim that "sticking to sports" would've been the right career move. That demonstrates a gross inability to separate your personal preferences from reality.

Could be or maybe entertainment is not that complicated to understand and it is geared towards gullible folks that's why pro wrasslin is so popular.

Like some have stated on here Ryan plays a role like Stugotz, golic, and etc. The dumb sidekick to kick around to make the host look smarter than he is.

I actually like Ryan better when he is not playing that role because he is entertaining enough not to sell out like that.

When not playing the goofball, this guy is pretty solid on pre and post game shows. A real pro.
He was also a damned good bicyclist back in the day.

LOL. You describe my post as inaccurate and then proceed to discuss nothing that I posted.

"Many have tried and all have faile"? What the hell is this nonsense. Do you seriously believe he is the first person to have a popular call in show? This is massive delusions of grandeur but it's not even your grandeur that you are deluded about. There have been plenty of popular sports call in shows, even local to Lexington.

Look you can love Matt all you want but this fawning behavior is way over the top. It's a sports call in show. And it's a local market. He has a popular show but there has never been anything about it that should be described as historic or great. It's a sports call in show in a small population state at the end of the day. Trying to elevate this to a historic and land mark show is looking like cult like behavior.

And yes it was being associated with UK basketball that made it popular. There is no way his show would have ever gotten off the ground if it started with talking about Mitch McConnell. The Patterson recruitment followed by Pitino's trial made Matt Jones.

Yep. Not to get in between you two on the larger topic, but this observation is spot on. It's generational. I'm sort of in between the old and young (heh, said every old guy ever) - I can see both sides. Many times, I compare the approach of Jones with Leach's show, and I think how much more I like Leach. He just talks about UK sports. I've wondered if you took a stopwatch to Matt's show and determined the time they actually talked about sports vs all the "shenanigans and off-topic nonsense", how shocking the result would be. But times change, people change - and for a lot of folks, they're bored with Leach and just sticking to the topic....

He seems like a good person, but his solo show on 630 before ksr was unlistenable. Say what you want about Matt and Alan Cutler, but they at least make interesting radio.
