Wonder if pulling the trigger on this release means we know that Mooney has decided to go elsewhere. Otherwise, would have been easy to wait and due a joint one.

Nope - Mooney is in Lubbock TX visiting Texas Tech as we type, and has said he'll make a decision thereafter. So Mooney is still in the cards!

From his tape I think Mooney can play 1 or 2 guard - and I feel if he has aspirations of playing at the next level, then he should focus on playing the point - but point is these guys can absolutely co-exist and be complimentary. As I'm sure Coach Collins is telling them.

But on that point, NU's marketing folks could have done us a favor and referred to Taylor as a "A 6-foot-6 guard / forward" or swingman or wing or just forward or... probably none of this matters.

We're going back to the tourney!! COME TO NU MOONEY!!

Could just as easily be that the coaches want Mooney to know he’s in the fold for a tournament run, especially given that we know the two connected as part of Mooney’s recruiting process.

More than anything, I think it’s a mistake to read much more into it than “hey, NU got one of the best grad transfers available and it would be great to add another!”

Great news. It’s official, and I think that’s a plus as far as Mooney is concerned.

The Cats just got a lot better today.

From the outhouse to the penthouse with a talented freshmen group, two outstanding transfers, and a new arena.

I like the one and done on the back end much better than on the front end. We are dealing with a proven player.

Great point.

Not sure about that. If you're getting one on the front end, then they are basically a lottery pick or at least sure fire first rounder. Think Marvin Bagley or Trae Young. I don't know that any 5th year grad transfer is likely to be anywhere in that stratosphere. Taylor is probably as good as they come and I doubt that he would be drafted.

NU isn't getting any first year 1-and-done players, so getting a solid 5th year is just fine with me.

Yeah, I more than fine with it. I think he's a fantastic addition. And we probably aren't gonna get any 1 and done players unless Pat Baldwin Jr. is coming to Evanston. But, that wasn't the question. The question was whether you'd rather have a one and done lottery pick true freshman or a 5th year grad transfer.

For us at this point a solid one and done back end guy is probably better for us. They are used to playing on a team and dealing with the exchanges and working together with other players. But the traditional front end one and done is often the focus of the whole team. Not sure that would be best for us right now.
