DL3 saying that this may the most talent ever assembled to fire up the US has insteAd fired up the Europeans to beat that that team. Zinger or Freddie for the next ryder Cup team.

Davis Love was a horrible choice for captain regardless of outcome. If we win it'll be in spite of him not because of him.

Yeah...because the captain has SO much influence on the outcome.

The Captain is the one that choose his Captains picks, decides the players that will team up and who will play against the opponent the final day. So yes the Captain does indeed influence the outcome.

You don't think the Captain matters at all UKO? If not, I'd suggest you learn sports.

If you don't think McGinley vs Watson played a huge role in the last outcome...well, you're an idiot and 100% of players and people involved would disagree with you, per usual.

Ultimately, it comes down to the players as in ANY sport. It's up to the 'coach' to put them in the best position to succeed & control the squad & matchups. Do baseball managers matter? [eyeroll]

I think Azinger with his entire approach, pod system etc. (read his book) made a big time difference. Read Phil's transcripts from today on his thoughts about the captain and how much the captain means.

Q. You've played for ten of them. How much difference can or does a captain make?
PHIL MICKELSON: Unbelievable. It all starts with the captain. I mean, that's the guy that has to bring together 12 strong individuals and bring out their best and allow them on a platform to play their best. That's the whole foundation of the team. You're saying -- I understand and I hear -- well, guys just need to play better or they just need to putt better. Absolutely you do.

But you play how you prepare. And in major championships, when we win or play well in majors, it's because we prepared properly for those events. And that allowed to us bring out our best golf. And in a Ryder Cup, you have to prepare properly for the event.

Thoughts on pairings for two man teams:

US:

Mickelson-Fowler (played together 2 years ago, I think)
Holmes-Koepka (have been in same pod)
Reed-Spieth (played together 2 years ago, I think)
Johnson-Johnson (two different games and personality types, but think they might play well together)
Walker-Kuchar

Not sure what to do with Moore and Snedeker

Europe

Garcia - Cabrerra-Bello (Ole, Ole, etc.)
Rose - Sullivan or Westwood
Mcilroy - Sullivan or Westwood
Pieters - Kaymer
Stenson - Willett

Not sure about Wood

Holmes/Koepka would be dope...talk about a bomber team.

yep, especially in four balls. Not sure I would want them in alt shot, think the Johnson-Johnson team would be killer US team in that format, lettng Zach zero in from short range after one of Dustin's rocket shots

As Phil said...you play how you prepare. But hell, he may be thinking I will putt better or have more GIR if "insert name" was captain. That would make all the diff when they step to the tee, I suppose. You could put cawood as captain and he would serve everyone some gluten free snack from who knows where and they would be just as apt to playing well (or not) Must be why they all have captains in their entourage when playing majors. Good stuff.

Regardless, Jack says it perfectly here...

What he said perfectly was this: I’m 40 years removed from that team as far as a player, maybe my old folks ideas aren’t necessarily the right ones.

The Ryder Cup has changed dramatically since his time, like most other things including your awful *** self.

Oh, and winning isn't really a big deal to Jack because he never lost.

Disagree with Jack on this one. If it's not that big of a deal to win or lose in the Ryder Cup , why bother to even play? Guessing the Euro's wouldn't agree with him either.

Nobody who plays or captains today feels that way. Not a single person. They care deeply, all you have to do is listen to those involved. Hell, even Tiger has changed his tune over the years as it's become much more important & fierce, that guy is ALL IN this week.

Jack is Jack, but it doesn't make him correct on everything, especially something he hasn't been a part of, and has admittedly "stayed out of" in ages.

UKO is terrible.

I've been pleasantly surprised at how good an analyst David Duval has been but after going after Chamblee on the air today he may be my favorite.

Pretty great moment just now. US fan was heckling the Euro's a bit about a 10 foot putt they couldnt make. Stenson goes into crowd and gets him to putt it. Justin Rose throws down a hundred dollar bill next to the ball before he putts.

Dude rolls it in to huge roars from the crowd as he does his best Tiger Woods imitation fist pump.

Friday 30 September foursomes

7:35am/1:35pm: Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed vs Justin Rose and Henrik Stenson

7:50am/1:50pm: Phil Mickelson and and Rickie Fowler vs Rory McIlory and Andy Sullivan

8:05am/2:05pm: Jimmy Walker and Zach Johnson vs Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer

8:20am/2:20pm: Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar vs Lee Westwood and Thomas Pieters

I'm going 2.5 to 1.5 US

First match halved
Phil and Rickie win
Garcia Kaymer win
DJ Kuch win

I think we should get 4 points out of 6 against their rookie in singles.

I think Phil and Rickie get smoked. Phil cant hit a fairway, Rickie has been sporadic at best and Rory is currently playing better than anyone in the wolrd.

Phil procedes to skull backward iron right through a fellows legs. I've always liked Phil but he is getting to be a drain on the US Ryder Cup team. Maybe he can turn things around today.

Hitting right handed with club turned backwards, wtf was he suppose to do ? Stick 10 feet from the flag from 280 out ??? He got them in trouble with THAT drive, but he has bailed Ricky out with hitting puts and hitting out of behind trees etc. Don't put ALL this **** on Phil.
