I often wonder if the portal is more beneficial to a coach or an athlete? Are these decisions to enter the portal made by the athlete or a coach? Here’s my opinion, after getting beat by Georgia, Saban took a close look at his roster and determined which players need to go. He then approaches these athletes and explains that playing time will be near impossible, which means that playing on Sundays will be impossible.

The portals original intent was to provide a recruit options when a coach left a team. Then it offered athletes an out when playing time diminished. However, today it’s become a powerful weapon and tool for coaches to scrub a teams roster.

I pray that I’m wrong, but I firmly believe that the intent of NIL will slowly meander down the same path as the portal.

You read a lot of stories about "processing" players such as this on the internet. You very rarely read actaul accounts from the players about being "processed". I'm sure there are disgruntled players, etc. But of all the players that portal, you seldom hear them say they were urged or even told to leave.

Bama is used to losing players every spring. Whether it was to the draft or their own processing. The Portal may have done them a favor to be honest because he'll recuit top 5-10 players at each spot opening up. They were trimming the fat way before it was popular to do so.

You would think with the seemingly thousands of players in the portal, at least some would feel the need to let the world know through social media, no? I'm sure someody can find one, we never have that discussion here.

Only 7? Seems like a pretty small number at this point. There's a reason Saban always finds a way to sign 25-30 recruits every year. In the past the players would find themselves on an "injury scholarship", now the portal saves Bama the hassle and expenditure, but at least the kids get to keep chasing the dream. It's amazing the number of players Saban misses on, but he compensates by running players off and oversigning, so he's got that going for him.

He runs the AL football program like a pro team. Not good enough ... he places you on waivers for any other team to pick up.
