)He has said in the past that it takes about 6 games for Sagarin to start to mean much of anything (IIRC). I don't know as much about Sagarin as he does, so was hoping he would explain for us. Even if I knew enough to try, I figure my explanation would be dismissed out of hand.

From what I gather Sagarin ratings tend to give a lot of weight to strength of schedule, where games are played and they don't reward teams for excessive margin of victory. In other words they reward teams for winning 28-3 as opposed to 10-3 but give them no more credit for beating that same team 56-3.
After that it seems to get complicated to me at least. Maybe that's why as someone else said it means more as the season goes on.

Those rankings also have South Carolina and Missouri ranked higher than Kentucky. I think the list still needs a few weeks to balance out.

It's actually true of ALL RANKINGS. Which is why BCS standings don't come out until there's a data set, right?
