Tuff to beat 18 seniors that already got a ring last year. Imagine there expectations for this year. I haven't watched allot of film on them but just looking at there scores alone tells me they are all business and take pride in shutting people out defensively which is a lost art with kids nowadays. They are on a mission and won't go down easy.

I know I'm sticking my nose where I know little about but a friend that has seen Maiden in late season said they are good but not that good.

For those that don't look at the weekly CVAC post...here is my take on this game from that thread:

#6 Salisbury (undefeated)
#3 Maiden (undefeated) *only team in the state with 12 wins

Here we are again...the "at home-underdogs"...except in the 3rd round instead of the 1st. I truly believe the winner of this game, sans-injuries, will be the State Champs.

For the Season (including playoffs):
Avg PF - S=56 and M=40
Avg PA - S=3 and M=7
Opponents kept to 1 score - S=10 and M=9
Shutouts pitched - S=8 and M=4

Just the Playoffs:
Avg PF - S=49 and M=42
Avg PA - S=3 and M=3.5
Opponents kept to 1 score - S=2 and M=2
Shutouts pitched - S=1 and M=1

These teams met in the 1st round last year. Salisbury came out on fire and we were smacked in the mouth. The rest is history and the state champs have returned for a round 2 in round 3. Salisbury has an amazing group of seniors and have gotten comfortable winning playoff games on the road over the past few years. They are full of athletes/studs. Their eyes are set on a return to state.

Maiden was full of sophomores last year and what senior leadership they did have was lacking. They were immature and mouthy on social media, but in reality were largely wimps in person. They are all graduated adults now and I can get that off my chest. That game last year was lost before we took the field. This set of now juniors this year know different and are very hungry...and our seniors are true emotional leaders. Our coaching, especially defensive, has improved the most I've seen while a Maiden fan. The leap from one year to the next has been exponential.

We haven't played anyone like Salisbury this year. Christ School had some very lean/tall/speedy athletes and are the best comp to Salisbury. Salisbury hasn't played anyone like Maiden this year with Thomasville being the stiffest competition they've seen. The only opponent we've both played is Bunker Hill, no competition...I think it helps (along with the stats mentioned above) to show how close these two teams are. I love how amazing both of the defenses are...absolutely smothering.

I believe schedules overall have benefitted Maiden more; Salisbury (no fault of their own) hasn't been able to face anyone remotely solid yet. Salisbury has been hot all year and Maiden is burning it up and peaking at the right time.

This is an overtime type of game to me. The energy here at Maiden...in the players...in the coaches...everything has culminated to this exact point in time where we get what we have desired since the spring...a shot at redemption. Don't get it twisted...this isn't about revenge...we were out right beat and I believe in the spring if we had played our best game we still would have lost. This isn't about revenge...this is redemption. This will be our best game, our best foot forward, for ourselves. We've proven to ourselves how great we can be and that we are a much better team than last year...now it is time to show everyone else. The Maiden team I saw at Bunker Hill and against West Lincoln last week is the best in 2A. We play like that and I love our chances. Might even go jump in Pinch Gut Creek!!

As good as these offenses are - the defenses will rule most of this game. This will be the lowest scoring game of all 8 2A games this Friday night.

#3 Maiden 29 - #6 Salisbury 28

Play violent through the whistle and keep your head on a swivel. Go Big Blue!

I do look for this to be a lot better game than back in the spring. You can tell Maiden is a better team as well. That’s what makes this matchup lot more exciting. I know Salsibury has played in a weaker conference which helps them to get the numbers they have. Not saying at all they are not a good team. They are really good. I think the key to this game is who will score first and keep the momentum going. If one team gets down by a couple scores that could spell trouble for the other to try and come back. Big thing is keeping mistakes and penalties down as much as possible.

Hey Maiden fans, how many fans will the stadium hold. I look for this to be a packed game. What’s the biggest crowd y’all seen since the stadium has been built.

We’ve had some big games there….strictly guessing…I’d say maybe 4 to 5000. I’m not really sure what the stadium seats….but I’m gonna ask.
I’d have to say the largest crowd occurred in conference play. Maybe…Newton, Bandys, or Lincolnton.
You’ve got me curious….so I’ll ask around
