Not just the playcalling by Shula, but the overall trajectory of the program.

Almost every SC coach in the modern era was able to build a good team over 3-4 years and then they peaked and went downhill.

Dietzel - his teams became incompetent late in his tenure. Much like this Beamer team.
Carlen - peaked with Rogers (plus, he was abrasive and insulting to everyone)
Bell - incompetent from the start
Morrison - built us to that 10 win season and then went backwards ending in the steroid scandal. He did have a couple of 8-4 seasons at the end, but not sure he would have survived the Chaikin story.
Woods - first 2-3 years were okay then they collapsed
Scott - same thing 2-3 good years then the invevitable collapse
Hotlz - 2nd and 3rd years were good, but then couldn't win more than 5 or 6
Spurrier - he and Morrison are the only ones who might have been able to break the mold, but Morrison died and Spurrier quit.

That's my entire career as a fan. I don't see us becoming anything more than that.

I have said this before. Why do we invest so much into football when this is what we will get? Let's just get a coach and staff that will take getting paid by the wins with a good base salary and start investing money in another sport or sports. How good could we be with all that football money going into men's basketball?

We should hire Elliott. He loves this place, is from Camden and would give it his all for a lot less than 8 million a year. Probably give us some 8 or 9 win seasons and beat CU.

That would be fine with me. Give him 1m base salary and some sort of sliding scale bonus for wins. He wins the national championship, he ends up with 12m. No buyouts.

I recall one of the biggest reasons Beamer was going to be great was because "he wants to be here".
Right. This is his "dream job". OU was willing to pay him TE coach money, we were willing to pay him SEC head coach money.

It’s called insanity!!! Doing the same thing over and over, only to have the same results.
