Scheduling?

So let me get this right, you are happy wrestling the current Iowa schedule and would not trade that schedule even if that meant you would have 7-8 more team championships over the past decade and another 20-30 individual championships. That being Iowa demands that tough schedule and you would not trade that tough schedule cause it is demanded. And these same people that are looking for the Brands' heads because of the lack of National and Individual champions would not be satisfied with those championships because of the chicken sh*t schedule Iowa would have wrestled to win those championships. OK, sure
Are you actually suggesting Iowa’s lack of success at nationals is due to their schedule? Can you explain how Iowa won nationals with their tough scheduling under gable and the early years of brands and zalesky?

the past 7-8 years, Iowa has had a relatively easier schedule with not competing at what used to be a tough southern scuffle and abandoning midlands.

I don't think this tread went at all the way it was supposed too.

I will ask again, DOES IT BENIFIT IOWA to schedule the OUT OF CONFERENCE teams or Penn St.'s weaker schedule that includes just a few meets prior to B1G schedule.

My point it that they always look fresher and less injured come March. We do not peek in March anymore (when it really counts). Is this leading to recruiting issues?

This thread was never meant to be a who's d*ck is bigger thread. Penn St. trolls, you have a far less of a schedule, like it or not you do...period....and it's been like that for some time now. You are getting the talent to come to you. You have for a while. For the Iowa faithful, is or schedule contributing to this slow decline in not being at least in the hunt for a Natty?

Been over this, but might as well DO IT AGAIN!!! YES it is a HUGE mistake to wrestle this schedule BUT being in IOWA and being the HAWKS demands it!!!

I gave the analogy about the NY Yankees. The DEMAND on the team is most often much greater then everyone else. What does that mean??? It means they have to play mostly PRIME TIME, they have to do more interviews, when they travel to other cities, they also have more "obligations"

The HAWKEYES are in the same boat!!! There is obviously the B1G schedule. Add the tradition(s) of wrestling Oak st etc.... Put in National duals and you now have a HEAD SCRATCHING BRUTAL schedule that for the most part, just tears you up!!!!

This is the FACTS my friends and you have to UNDERSTAND TRAINING to understand what this means!!! For example, to go into a meet such as Beliemaire(or whatever the team was-NO offense because they wrestled TUF!!!!) Our guys would not have to be a PEAK performance levels. To wrestle in the National duals however- you need to be FIRING on ALL cylinders!!!

Now you not only have to wrestle TOP competition once, now maybe 2-3-4-5 TIMES!!!! Just look at Ohio st, IOWA wrestled them, then they wrestle them again, then they see them at B1G Ten championships, then NCAAs.

AND I get IRON sharpens IRON!!! Problem is, that "IRON" better be treated and used correctly otherwise it can "break down!!!" We go to DAN GABLES book THE IOWA WAY once again. APPARENTLY I am the only one here who READ the darn thing!?!?!?!? There is a whole section about PEAKING and it is a "wave" pattern.

Problem is, IOWA schedule leaves NO time to implement a peaking schedule. I am also NOT certain of POS ncaa regulations and/or pos IOWA administrations "over watch" about TRAINING!?!?!? and this is HUGE!!! IF constrains are placed on TRAINING, COACHING, DRILLING etc.... That also makes early season matches just plain STUPID!!!

LOVED the National duals, time of year is STUPID!!! but when could you have it??? NO great answer!!!!

If I was IOWA, I wouldn't even compete till after New Year!!!! I would work technique, situations, drills, bring in outside guys from all over to spare with. Then get at it with B1G schedule!!!
So it's scheduling causing the lack of development? I'm sure that's 100% of the issue. If Drake didn't have such a tough schedule, he would surely have used all these years to develop more than one offensive attack.

is Cael chicken s*** and doesn't want to wrestle the toughest until March?

While S*** St. (sometimes) have just enough matches

Trolling with what sounds like d***-measuring IMHO.

It depends on what the athletes need, imo. Some guys need the tough competition to actually improve over the year. Some are so good that they don’t need to wrestle hammers all season long in order to be at the top of the podium in March.

Imo, PSU has had such strong teams that they really haven’t needed to improve over the course of the season. And having cupcake eating contests during the season may result in less injuries before March.

Iowa, on the other hand, has been blessed with a number of “projects,” who benefit from facing stiffer competition in the dual season but may ultimately risk injury going through that mest grinder.

Why doesn't Iowa wrestle freestyle in the summer?
I don’t know.

But if a kid wants to be a world champ, and he sees PSU with a great RTC, and a bunch of guys competing for world titles, he’ll tend to want to go there.

OTOH, Iowa has a much lower exposure in the summer tournaments, and it’s going to be a factor for recruits.

Not at all. That’s what ironhawk was suggesting. that Iowa demands a hard schedule and that causes the lack of success. My retort simply is if that was truly the case (it is not) then any sane coach would simply schedule easier, take the championships and potential criticism (there would be none) for the easy schedule.

My 2 cents....no, the schedule is not a key reason why we are lagging mostly behind PSU, occasionally another team here and there. Recruiting is #1. Debatable reasons after that, but not sure scheduling would even make my top 5.

guy, guys- GUYS!!!!! I do NOT believe ANYONE is saying scheduling is the most import thing!?!?!??!There may be 100 things more important but the OP asked a question!!!

Right now $$$$$$$ is the MOST import thing because it will lead to EVERYTHING else!!! Have to have the MONEY, then have to be able to USE the $$$$$$!!!! Said it L O N G ago, give me enough CASH and I will build the TOP team in ANY sport and at ANY skool!!!!

We need this, and we need that is ALL BS when you get right down TWOOOOO it!!!! Been over the GR8 Krailures teams and without 4-5Xs the amount of TOP kids coming in. He aint SHEEEETTTTT!!! This is the fact and has been 100% proven with STATS!!!!

Right now it is a who's who of TOP guys with a who"s next of guys on the bench!!! Then you have a WHO's DUMB enuff to believe these IDIOTS wasting their eligibility aren't getting PLENTY of dough!?!??

Give IOWA/TnT the MONEY and let them use it and they would destroy those chumps over there which they already have proven they can do with much less!!!

IOWA just somehow lost the TOP recruit this year, the TOP recruit next year, maybe the TOP recruit in 3 years, and a PIPELINE into a TOP team in PA to F-in BOOT and MOST of you don't even have a CLUE what that all means!!!! Those were the kids you needed!!!

AND you know what??? The " we are not going to break the rules" SHEEETTTTT, can go KISS my ARSE!!! WHAT f-in rules are we even talking about anymore in the POS ncaa!?!?!?!? I mean the GR8 krailure in Low Lying Swamp Land has one CRIME after another and they just keep pluggin along!!!! PAYOFFS fine, DRUGS fine, SEX ABUSE fine, STEALING fine........ F-IN IOWA can't keep the COMMITTED B1Ggest recruit in the F**king country, a B!GGER recruit then SUPERMAN LEE even!!!! and we are talking about scheduling!?!?!? You all should schedule a meeting with a darn phycologist!!!!

So most think it's a recruiting problem.

How many here have tried to talk a 18 year old into coming to your program? Why it works for him/her? What's the best way for him/her to get to the top step?
